Any chance we could be looking at recess appointments?

If a recess appointment is not made I will be very disappointed in Frist for backing down. He has not stoop up strongly against the RATS on any matter thus far.

Backing down from a threat

In general, I don't think it is a good idea to back down.

I really think it would be a mistake to appoint Estrada as a recess appointment. Now President might make some other recess appointments. I have noticed mainstream news is not paying much attention to the fillibuster so I am not sure the Dems are gaining much from the filibuster. The longer it goes on the more obstructionist and stupid they look. Not that they would have to go far or do much to accomplish that feat.

Actually the timing is great. He will be put up for a vote just as the bombs start falling. No way the dems will filibuster with the bombs falling!

CNN Crossfire host Robert Novak stated on "Inside Politics" that the underlying reason for this recess was that Congress wants to get out of Washington due to "wives pressure" and "fear of impending terrorist attack"

Now THAT makes sense. Senators wanting to get the heck out of Dodge for a while. I'm not condoning it,just saying the explanation of why they got the week (sheesh we should all be so fortunate) off.

I was going to suggest that the Dems whined Frist to death and he finally relented. I just hope Estrada gets voted in.

I'm sorry, but the term 'Doofus'® has been registered as a trademark of California Governor Gray Davis ("Il Duffe").

If Bill Frist had the balls we all hoped he'd have, he would have said, "sure, we'll take the week off, assuming the Estrada vote has happened by the end of business tomorrow."

I'm sick of spinelessness. Hell, Trent Lott would have caved in too. This is bogus. Shame on the GOP for once again caving to the 'rat bastards.

I heard Hatch on Hannity a while ago. There are procedural problems. Several senators are recuperating from surgery. For example, McConnell is recovering from bypass surgery. Another senator's wife is undergoing medical treatment. If Frist required the Rats to debate through the recess, the Dems could leave a skeleton crew in DC and at anytime could note the absence of a quorum. If the Pubbies can't get their troops to respond, the Rats could require a cloture vore which they would lose. Frist really has no choice but to do this.

Unles I am missing something, the GOP BLINKED! The gimmies win again and the Estrada nomination is dust. Those more knowledgeable that I in this matter feel free to straighten me out here.

Sorry for not noting that the GOP would lose the cloture vote.
