I don't know about the sentencing part. It sounded like the Jury has to deliberate further about the sentence. Maybe someone from Texas can provide guidance.

Wasn't defending her. Just making a point about anytime you start a new relationship and you haven't ended the one you're in, depending on the stability of the people involved, you are playing with fire. I mean married or not. There's a lot of wackos out there.

Dramatic split screen of Clara Harris and Ted Kennedy on Fox News ...and both murdered someone with a car. Except Ted didn't leave tire tracks and nobody had a camcorder.

"I think they should be compassionate and just give her 40 years." Without parole. How old is she now?
To: 1Old Pro
I think she's in her early to mid 40's.

Up until relatively recently, it was not at all frowned upon by society.
A man was expected to defend his "honor". But that's a term which has dropped out of use in contemporary society - except maybe in the Marine Corps.
In light of the present view of equal rights for both sexes, I would consider it justifiable homicide here too.

They will equip her car with a bit**alyzer to assure her hormones are in check before the ignition will work. The insurance industry might make you a millionaire if you invented that!

Not fake tears.
Crime of passion. The women went crazy. She deserves to be punished but not by being put in prison forever.

Would you be showing the same "compassion" if it had been her husband who had run her over for cheating on him?

I have to say that I lost any support I had for this woman when she took to crying crocodile tears in order to gain sympathy and a sympathetic verdict from the jury.
Of course, I didn't believe her story anyway. But the manipulative court room hysterics were enough to convince me that she's a slimeball.

"But the manipulative court room hysterics were enough to convince me that she's a slimeball."
Those hysterics were orchestrated by her lawyer. Who, by the way, was the lawyer for Andrea Yates a couple years ago as well.

Given the same set of circumstances, including the cheating you refer to? If David had run over Clara? Would I be showing the same compassion? You betcha!
To: txradioguy
O.K., let's be compassionate and give her 50 years without parole.
To: Taffini
Do you mean to say that someone who plots and plans to kill their husband and does it can't get the death penalty? If it's only one person and they committed no other felony crime in the process, the answer is yes.
Capital murder in Texas (crimes where the death penalty can be the sentence) are generally either about killing while in the act of committing another felony (such as rape or burglary), multiple murders (such as serial killers) or killing a law enforcement officer.
If you only murder once, and the victim is not an LEO, and you committed no other felonies while doing so, you won't get the needle but you might get life in prison.
See? Texans have a soft side. It's just the fact that we really DO execute our death row inmates that get the liberals' panties in a wad.

I was gonna go along with you on that til Ijust heard an excerpt from the step daughters testimony. She said that Clara Harris declared that she was "gonna hit him" right before she gunned the engine to run dowm Mr. Harris. Which means her "accident" claim is a lie. She planned to hit him before she put the car in gear. That's premeditation. I say give her a reservation in the red brick building in Hunstville.
