The Is-There-A-Run-On-Duct-Tape-Yet? thread
2-11-03

Posted on 02/11/2003 10:56:58 AM PST by BurbankKarl

Has anyone bought plastic and tape as mentioned by Tom Ridge. I am sure some hard core Freepers already have it, left over from Y2K. I remember reading stories how the Israelis had all this stuff at the ready.

When is the Hajj over? When does Hajji come home? Will MSNBC run a Countown to Hajj ticker?

Maybe we should tape Gravis into his chair.

Kind of reminds me of those days in the fifties where the kids were supposed to get under their desks at school.

I remember doing that. Made sense to me. Of course, I had been less than a mile from a one-kiloton explosion that blew my window, blinds, glass and all across the room into the opposite wall. The house didn't collapse, but I could have been badly hurt by the flying glass. As it was, I was just out of the path of the glass.

I'll take whatever edge I can get, whether it be temporary shelter under a desk or plastic sheeting over a blown out window.

In hurricane country, it's not a bad idea to have the sheeting and duct tape anyway. Batteries and portable radio too. Last big hurricane here we were without power for seven days.

There are survivors and there are victims. If you do nothing you may envy those that did something.

I was going to say I was getting it to treat my daughter's wart (which is true)

It's true you were going to treat the wart with duct tape? ;-)

During the Cold War we didn't even have the option of saying "close the borders". That's an improvement!

Yes, Fox Girl is right.....duct tape does remove warts....heard it myself on Tv and radio newscasts several months ago. Apparently you are supposed to cover the wart and leave it on for about a week before removing tape. Not sure if it can be used on genital warts, though. You'll have to ask someone else.

Agreed, with certain exceptions. If someone pops a cannister of gas in your yard, forget it. If you are on the edge of a plume of gas, it just might keep you alive.

And hey, I live in Texas. That next tornado that mistakes my house for a mobile home just might knock out some windows and I'll wish I had some plastic sheeting and duct tape!

Your sister is taking the right path. I live in Florida, and it's not that every Hurricane hits, but when one does, it's great to be prepared. This is the same. Get the water, extra food, tape, etc.

I'm more concerned that government is finally talking about the specifics of the threat. I'm getting increasingly worried. I spent the morning talking to my sister on her cellphone while she went shopping to pick up some plastic drop cloths and a couple of rolls of duct tape. She has four little kids. (She picked up some extra water jugs and flashlights as well. If nothing else, we're going to have a great time camping this summer.)

Not a problem, thank you! Damn, I was sure she was joking...

I doubt that folks in Bumfart, Mississippi should be overly concerned.

That's good, 'cause our local Bumfart Wal*Mart ran out of duct tape. They do have plenty of ducks, but that's not an approved substitute. Except for the food thing. They're fine for that.

"I need it to hold my car together"

In the days of the Model T you could keep the danged thing running with bailing wire and chewing gum. Of course, that was before we got duct tape, and who remembers bailing wire?

I own a hardware store...I haven't sold any duct tape today, but I have sold some plastic.

Remember to buy the expensive 6 mil plastic...

You will also be needing a box of nails, and some dust masks.

How 'bout them rabbit-feet keychain thingies you hardware-store guys (bless you) have next to the cash registers? Did Ridge say we'd be needing any of those?

And what about the Tootsie Rolls in the bucket next to the rabbit-feet keychain thingies? Necessary for The War on Terrorism? Sure hope so. I wanna be prepared.

Going to the hardware store on Saturday is sorta like going to church for some of us.

This is the funniest thread I've read here on FR in a many a moon. I don't know anything about duct tape and water though. Probably got a couple of rolls around the house somewhere but haven't used it except for emergency situations on the car. And being from the South, I only drink three things, Sundrop, Cheerwine, and sweet tea. I probably haven't drunk a glass of water on purpose in years. But when I did go tonight to pick up a Cheerwine, I noticed the water aisle was flat empty

Chelation Therapy:
Unproven Claims and Unsound Theories

Saul Green, Ph.D.

Chelation therapy, as discussed in this article, is a series of intravenous infusions containing disodium EDTA and various other substances. Proponents claim that EDTA chelation therapy is effective against atherosclerosis and many other serious health problems. Its use is widespread because patients have been led to believe that it is a valid alternative to established medical interventions such as coronary bypass surgery. However, there is no scientific evidence that this is so. It is also used to treat nonexistent "lead poisoning," "mercury poisoning," and other alleged toxic states that practitioners diagnose with tests on blood, urine, and/or hair.
