TUNKHANNOCK, Pa. -- Two Marines on unexcused leave from Camp Lejeune, N.C., were in a Pennsylvania jail Saturday night, accused of threatening to use a bomb at Camp Lejeune.

According to Pennsylvania State police, the Marines and a third person downloaded bomb-making information from the Internet and threatened to use the explosives at the base.

and it would also appear that the prosecution jumped the gun, far better to have gotten these guys when they had done something overt in furtherance of a conspiracy.

Yup.

There are some VERY large, proud, dangerous and unforgiving NCOs - in that MOS - and they really despise bastards that break the brotherhood bond of trust, or bring shame to the Corps...

And I'm old enough I think that is a good thing.

The thing is that after thinking it over, about all the USMC has on these dimwits is AWOL. Civilian authorities have a possible conspiracy theory, but they are going to have a damn tough time proving they were serious. They arrested them before they actually did anything.

I'm glad our leaders have more wisdom than some of the posters I read on FR.

It saddens me to say average turnip has more wisdom that some of the kneejerk posters here.

Thanks wardaddy.

Never having been in the military, I did not know the procedure, especially since they were off base.
I've also read the same about Leavenworth.

Good riddance to 'em!

Oooooh a Marine Corps brig is no place I'd want to be. Some years ago I had the duty to brig chase a fellow Marine to the brig in Okinawa. The Marine was a pretty hefty fellow and quite tough in his own right. When I turned him over to the brig guards he bolted out the door and made a break for it. Needless to say he was quickly captured, escorted to the shower stalls a scuffle broke out and he was persuaded to stay. I came away convinced that a Marine brig is not a very nice place to visit let alone stay.

I was just gonna say that. "Unexcused Leave", is that like "Undocumented Worker"? I was reading a book on the "Old Army" a few weeks ago and found out that if you went AWOL they wouldn't even bother looking for you. After a few months they dropped you from the rolls figuring that if you didn't care enough to return they didn't want you. A TRUE volunteer army.

I work at Camp Lejeune and can tell you they probably could have detonated the bomb on base. Two reasons, one- as members of the marine corp they would not be subject to search at the gate. Two- gate searches are utterly random and having gone through one (Ive worked there six months and only searched once)the searches are completely worthless. They opened the doors looked into the passenger area and into the back but didn't even unpack our equipment, they only asked to see our paperwork for being there and only asked the driver to see his license.

The briefcase-sized box, wrapped in what appeared to be a green garbage bag and left at the entrance of the William J. Nealon Federal Building in the 200 block of North Washington Avenue, was full of pornographic magazines and videos

It was just a misunderstanding. The fellow who found the box was attempting to return it to its owner, and was undertandably confused by the similar name "William J. Nealon".

Well, if you hate it here so much and hate the people here so much--don't let the door hit your back on the way out.

You'll appreciate this - we used to call it "French Leave."

I thought that was only in the face of the enemy...

Another kneejerk reaction. Who said anything about hating anybody. There are a lot of great posters here...and a few people who are appallingly ignorant.

They would have been better off purposely rolling an ankle during PT, playing crazy, or dressing up in women's clothes.

It's no stretch of the imagination that William J. Clinton would welcome a package full of porn.

Given the current state of affairs with the French and now these three, it still fits.

Camp Lejeune Marine Arrested At Onslow County Airport

POSTED: 6:39 p.m. EST February 10, 2003

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. -- A Camp Lejeune Marine was in jail in Onslow County on Monday, accused of attempting to carry an explosive device on a plane.

Police bag screeners stopped Pfc. Shadwick Simmons at Ellis Airport. They spotted a hand grenade firing pin inside his carry-on bag.

According to police, it was the third time a Marine has been caught trying to get a weapon on board a plane. FBI and law enforcement agents want to find out what Simmons' intentions were.

The 19-year-old Simmons is being held on $50,000 bond. He is charged with possession of an explosive device and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

As of 6:30 p.m. Monday, there was no word from Camp Lejeune on what disciplinary actions Simmons can expect there.

All right, a few questions here.

#1 What the HE!! is going on at Lejeune?

#2 I admit I don't know much about grenades but is a firing pin REALLY considered a WMD?

#3 Ok, it's the third time a soldier from Lejeune has been caught trying to board a plane with a weapon. WTF? Are these guys stupid or what?

Are these two of Hackworth's "whiners"?????

I know that to someone with your limited intellectual ability this is a hard concept to grasp, but just because Hackworth is right this one time about this one issue,it doesn't mean I am a fan of his. Hackworth has stated his sources are officers with combat experience who work in the Pentagram. PLEASE note that NONE of his sources were draft-dodgers hiding in Air NG units who know they will never be activated,or warrant officers in non-combat support units.

BTW,one of the "whiners" as you call them who is against this war was on a Sunday talk show this weekend. He is a well-known anti-American named Normam Schwartzkoph. Maybe you've heard of him?

BTW,shouldn't you get back to shuffling the paperwork in your Tampax packing battalion?

Yes, I saw Norm on TV the other day. What I heard him say is that Saddam is a bad guy that needs to go. He said he thought that Powell made the case that Saddam needs to go now. Now how can he be one of Hack's "whiners"?
