UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has warned the United States against launching a unilateral attack on Iraq.
He argued that action under a UN umbrella would have greater legitimacy and better odds of success.
In an address marking the 310th anniversary of William and Mary College, Annan stressed that force should be used only as a last resort.
But if the UN Security Council concludes, after a key report by UN inspectors due on Friday, that Iraq is not disarming as required by council resolutions, "the council must face up to its responsibilities," he said.
"When there is strong UN leadership, exercised through patient diplomatic persuasion and coalition-building, the United Nations is successful.
"The United Nations is most successful to all its members, including the United States, when it is united and works as a source of collective action rather than discord.
"The broader our consensus on Iraq, the better the chance that we can come together and deal effectively with other burning conflicts in the world, which cause untold suffering and which urgently need our attention - from Israel and Palestine to Congo and Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), not to mention our efforts to stabilize Afghanistan," he said.

I find it slightly amusing that this fellow, and the French and Germans as well, do not understand that they are pulling the plug on the UN by their actions. America and Britain will no longer support the institution if they do not allow the removal of Saddam Hussein. It's that simple.

OK, Kofi, it this is gonna be done under a UN resolution, then the US will subtract our costs from our future payments for UN dues..we'll be even in about, say, 37 years or so, give or take a few..

Oh brother- "Don't go it alone" Hey Kofi, Where have you been ? I guess he hasn't seen the coalition that is already built. Maybe goodnesswins needs to send the coalition graphic to Kofi's personal e-mail account.

He argued that action under a UN umbrella would have greater legitimacy and better odds of success. Success at what, Kofi?
Enriching European arms suppliers?
Bringing on the Final Battle?
Killing those nasty Joos?
C'mon, Kofi, you can level with us. We truly don't care what you think (see "irrelevant").

Mr. Annan, can you see my middle finger raised in response? It's the same in any language.
Members of the U.N. don't even obey the laws of the City of New York.
Throw the UN and its assorted trash out of our country. I volunteer to drive a truck-full of the bastards to the airport. I'll think of it as my civic duty to help clean up litter.

The last time I checked the dictionary [about 30 seconds ago], it defined
unilateral as
..... 1 a : done or undertaken by one person or party
........ b : of, relating to, or affecting one side of a subject.
Someone needs to tell Kofi and other dimwits what the word means.
GRAPHICAL VERSION: WHO has joined the ALLIES FOR LIBERTY & FREEDOM?
THESE ARE the 26 ALLIES for IRAQI peoples (women & children included) FREEDOM

It's time for Bush to tell this guy where to go.

Please add me to your ping list! Secondly, thanks for putting this in Breaking News!
I just heard the report on MSNBC that showed Annan talking and my blood pressure must have spiked by a large amount.
Time for Great Britain and the United States to go about finding a new home for getting coalitions outside the United Nations. As long as the Security Council is dominated by 3rd world type countries, we can forget much of anything. To have countries like Angola, Syria, Chili, and even Mexico sit in judgement of the US and GB is ludicrous while the country of Australia is on the sidelines.
BTW, Annan's speech could have been written by the clintons the way it sounded! This United States going it alone is pure Clintonspeak that is being touted now by the UN Secretary General who is a total bad joke not to mention the DemocRATs and the liberal US media!

Alone? How long has this man been asleep at the wheel?
We have most of Europe behind us now.
To: MadIvan
...warned the United States against launching a unilateral attack... There's a new definition of 'unilateral' these days. It now means "any action taken without the sanction or direct participation of France and Germany."
