Former US President Bill Clinton was a spy for the CIA while studying at Oxford University, it has been claimed.
British journalist Christopher Hitchens says Mr Clinton was working as a double agent while they were students together at Oxford.
He reported to the intelligence agency on fellow opponents of the Vietnam war while a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford in 1968, the columnist alleged.
"I think he was a double agent," Mr Hitchens told right-wing Washington magazine Doublethink.
Draft-dodging
"Somebody was giving information to (the CIA) about the anti-war draft resisters, and I think it was probably him."
President Clinton was frequently criticised by opponents for alleged draft-dodging.
They claimed he studied at Oxford in order to avoid conscription and being forced into the Vietnam conflict.
Mr Hitchens, who was critical of Mr Clinton during his presidency, said they also shared a girlfriend during their college years.
Radical lesbian
She has since become a "very famous radical lesbian", he went on.
He added: "So one of us was doing something wrong, or right."

Hey Baby. Name's Clinton, Bill Clinton. 00Willie. Whatcha doin' tonight darlin'?

Clinton comes out of the Chirac rent-a-pol school. In the early '90s, there were allegations he was a KGB agent while at Oxford. During his second term, it's the world's worst-kept secret that he was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Second Department (intelligence) of the PLA General Staff.

Is Hitchens trying to clean up Klintoon's legacy with this unverifiable breathless "news"? He's been damning the ex-Pervert-in-Chief for years.
I realize the socialist Hitchens is an icon among some conservatives because he's pro Iraq war and ostensibly hates the same guy we do. But he's still a hardcore socialist albeit with an enticing boyish appeal, a way with words and a charming British accent that grabs the ladies. But one never knows which way the wind blows with his ideology as you would with steady conservative columnists like Coulter and Will.
To me, he's just another journalistic left-wing hustler who comes up with goofy tidbits every once in a while to remain in the public eye.
I'll bet the Klintoon is loving this latest. An American 007? I'm shaken, not stirred.

To Hitchens, this would not be helpful in "cleaning up" Clinton's reputation. To those on the left, about the only thing worse to say about Clinton would be that he worked for Big Oil. Hitchens is not releasing this to help Clinton. See my theories posted above.

"It wouldn't surprise me if he WAS doing this, as he likes to play both sides. This was his earliest effort at triangulation.
Plus, as another freeper said yesterday (and I'm sorry I don't remember who) "What better way to avoid the draft, get some cash, and still be able to pick up babes?""
I agree. Playing both sides for personal gain is very, very Clintonian. This is entirely believable. Would like to know just why Hitchens fingers Clinton, though. I suppose he won't say, exactly why.

Secret agent, code name "slick". Was redoubled back against the CIA by his KGB handler, code name "Jr.Senator".
To: H8DEMS
hitchens may have said an inadvertant "truth" by saying "Clinton was a DOUBLE AGENT. Who was he an agent for first.hmmmmmmmmm

NO, it doesn't seem like him to hide something that he should have been able to trot out as one for the good guys. Then again it makes perfect sense. His base, hates war, hated the Vietnam war badly. He loses his base, if they find out he found a way to protest the war, and support the war. I feel that if the left found out he was one of the "pigs", they would be less able to hold their noses while supporting him.

It wouldn't surprise me if he WAS doing this, as he likes to play both sides. This was his earliest effort at triangulation. Methinks you analyse too much. It's much simpler than that, clinton would do anything for anyone for a beer and a blow job.

Or all of the above.
If Clinton was (is) a spy of any kind, he was th POTUS and treason is the least of his problems.
But no one cares, it seems,
BTW: One of the late night talk shows hosts last night said the Bill Clinton would be not only attanding the Rolling Stones concert but introducing them.

Some of this article was on Page Six of the New York Post yesterday(Feb.6, 2003). Other comments by Hitchens....Hitch attacked Al Gore as a "humble, hollowed-out, humiliated figure," declaring, "I don't want a zombie to be president of the United States." About the possibility of Gore or Hillary in the White House..."[Bleep] them. I have nothing but contempt for them. The thought of these people in power frightens me." Hitchens sneers, "I just hope they all get some sort of wasting disease before they can run."
