North Korea has warned it would launch a pre-emptive attack on United States forces if Washington sends more troops to the Korean peninsula, the BBC said.

Talk is cheap. Woe to them if they were to do that. North Korea still has a little time to try to clean up their act before we get to them. This isn't a good start. But I seriously doubt this is anything more than diplomatic posturing; they know a first strike would bring international condemnation and swift, horrible (and I do mean horrible) retaliation from the US and several other countries. North Korea is gonna be yapping a lot in the coming days. They think we're distracted enough for them to do it. They'll find out differently if they don't STFU soon.

I know Iraq is dangerous, but the utter silence in regards to N. Korea tells me one of two things... They are simply bluffing and Bush is calling them on it or Bush is simply ignoring the threat... I doubt its the second as I trust Bush and his team's judgement.

But boy, N. Korea is a pain in my butt just listening to this tripe coming from the peninsula.

Empty threats, which they just might have the nerve to carry out!

Here's another story about this.

"The United States says that after Iraq, we are next", said the deputy director Ri Pyong-gap, "but we have our own countermeasures. Pre-emptive attacks are not the exclusive right of the US."

N Korea threatens US with first strike

”North Korea will regard such actions as an invasion or attack against it, he said, adding that Pyongyang would not just sit and wait and could decide to strike first if necessary.”

It would be like slitting their own throats. Please, PLEASE preemptively attack us.

Would some one do a close up on Kim Jong's head - I think that we will probably find the number '666' some where.

I think NK and Iraq have an alliance (along with Iran), and did before the President's SOTU address last year, hence the Axis of Evil. They may do something, but I think they are just yelling "Yoo hoo! Over here!" intentionally to try and distract us. But as with anyone of this type (muderous thug type) you have to be prepared for the worst. If they think we can't boot their ass off the globe, they are sadly mistaken.
Can Isreali planes fly that far? Their nuke reactor needs to be shut down, for good.
And why is the almighty UN waiting, no - demanding, we do something about this, but are trying to tie our hands on Iraq.
How can people have so much hate in their hearts and still function.

Where is all the bitching from France, Germany, CNN, Susan Sarandon et. al. about North Korea acting unilaterally and without U.N. approval?(sarcasm)

I wonder what make him think that we don't already have enough hardware in place to glass everything north of the DMZ within 8 minutes of his attack ?

North Korea has warned it would launch a pre-emptive attack on United States forces if Washington sends more troops to the Korean peninsula, the BBC said.

Is that so? The very fact that they're saying this in such precise terms is unusual.

Air raid drills and blackouts are becoming twice-daily rituals and huge posters calling for courage in the fight ahead cover billboards and walls.

The way that they are doing this is unusual, as well. I wouldn't be suprised if they are shifting people out of Pyongyang and out to rural areas and bunkers, as they have done in the past. Propaganda is nothing new with the NKs, but the way they are going about this is fairly egrigious.

North Korea will regard such actions as an invasion or attack against it, he said, adding that Pyongyang would not just sit and wait and could decide to strike first if necessary.

Tough talk, and very clear. You can bet that the ROK military and USFK are spun up and ready. Why they would telegraph their move like this could be for only two reasons; they're bluffing, or they're going to try and pin us with the blame for the Second Korean War.

If they are bluffing, they've pulled out all the stops to make it look realistic. Their military, diplomatic, civil, and internal sectors are all in full wartime mobilization. They are not unknown for doing this to bluff. Perhaps they think that they've cried wolf so many times in the past, they won't be taken seriously (especially by the ROKs)

If they're trying to blame us for inciting hostilities, that may play well with South Korean lefties, but no one will buy it internationally. Perhaps Kim is taliloring his message specifically to his sympathizers in the South.

Funny thing, is that the North Koreans are in possession of a large number of South Korean and some U.S. military uniforms, and have contingincies to literally stage an attack on themselves, and use that as a pretext for war. Keep an eye out for 'South Korean / USFK commando raids', coming soon to a propaganda film near you.

the #1 reason why North Korea is going nuts because it fears that once Saddam is gone it will have lost a major ally and trading partner. Once Saddam goes...how will NK make any money?
It's also going nuts because it's opportunistic-they think we can't handle Iraq and North Korea at the same time. That's also why we're hearing Al Qaeda warnings and Hezballa is also expected to cause trouble (they've already launched missiles against Israel)
