For Democrats, it was pivotal for Powell to produce rock-solid, slam-dunker stuff on Saddam. The onus rests squarely on Bush, not Hussein, they said. The challenge for Powell was building as methodical and compelling a case possible, buttressed by reams of irrefutable evidence, while avoiding the pitfalls and perils of over-reach, exceeding the bounds of evidence. Stick to the evidence, stick to the facts, stick to the proof, Mr. Powell, or risk a 'credibility gap', say the Democrats.
