Homer Simpson will no doubt greet the news with a resounding 'doh!' and a theatrical slap of his forehead.
Doh! A trip to Mo's Tavern is probably out of the question |
He is about to receive a visit from Tony Blair. The Prime Minister is expected to fulfil a long-held ambition by becoming the latest star guest to appear on the cult cartoon series. He is following the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Tom Jones and Rupert Murdoch.
Mr Blair has described himself as a 'Simpsons addict' who tries to find time to watch the show with his children. Sources say there is no question of him appearing until the crisis in Iraq has been resolved.
Asked about the invitation, a Downing Street spokesman replied enigmatically: 'We have received a variety of different requests from a variety of different programmes.'
Health Secretary Alan Milburn will no doubt urge him to set a good example by resisting Homer's copious supply of doughnuts. A night on Duff beer at Moe's Tavern is also a no-no.
Labour Party chairman John Reid, however, will be pressing him to secure a sizeabledonation from the show's resident millionaire, the miserly Montgomery Burns.
As the leader of a party that has been happy to get into bed with some decidedly shady tycoons, Mr Blair should not be put off by the fact that Mr Burns owns Springfield's crumbling nuclear power plant.
The Prime Minister should also get on well with Mr Burns's sycophantic sidekick Waylon Smithers.
After all, some at Westminster have described as Springfield's very own Peter Mandelson.

Hell if I were a world leader I'd want to appear on the Simpsons.

It reminds me of something Bill Clinton would do. He's not going to play the sax on the Simpsons, is he?
To: BlessedBeGod
Not the sax:

Gosh, he doesn't look as cool in a suit with a guitar as those Ska bands did back in the '80s.

The only reason he will be appearing on the "Simpsons" will be to endorse Quimby's reelection bid for mayor.
He will be a houseguest of Apu Ahasapenna Pedalon and his wife Mintjula.

Oh, no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Simspons actually hammered Clinton with things like this:
Marge: President Clinton?
Clinton: Yeah, hi. I'm here to see Lisa Simpson.
Lisa: [gasps] You read my letter?
Clinton: Much of it, yeah. And those glow sticks were wrong,
very wrong, so I personally overturned the results
of that band contest. Congratulations. [hands Lisa
a plaque]
Lisa: [gasps] Thank you, Mr. President.
Clinton: No, thank you, Lisa, for teaching kids everywhere a
valuable lesson: If things don't go your way, just
keep complaining until your dreams come true.
Marge: That's a pretty lousy lesson.
Clinton: Hey, I'm a pretty lousy president.

I wonder if he'll share any scenes with Groundskeeper Willie. The Scots aren't known for their fondness for the English.

It's not "doh"; it's "d'oh." Reporters can't get ANYTHING right.

Bill Clinton will never actually appear on "The Simpsons." They've already had him tell Marge that he has sex with pigs, and called him a liar repeatedly.
To: smith288
And earlier in the same episode, Clinton is hitting on Marge, telling her that she's good enough for him because he has "honest to God, done it with a pig".

The Simpsons is pretty even handed, they slap socialists around as much as they do conservatives, maybe even slightly more so. One thing for certain - the writers for The Simpsons are much more even-handed than the writer of this screed.

Mat Groening the creator of the Simpsons was asked to pick his favourite ten episodes. This was what he said about one of his favourites the "Treehouse of Horror VII" - Season 8.
``In this Bart discovers Hugo, his evil twin; Lisa creates a higher form of life, and Kang and Kodos morph into Bob Dole and Bill Clinton. My favorite quote is Marge's opinion of Clinton when he Kodos says, "I am Clin-Ton. As overlord, all will kneel trembling before me and obey my brutal commands. End communication." Marge responds, "Hmm, that's Slick Willie for you, always with the smooth talk."

Nope, doesn't work. Despite the common element of tie and jacket, Elvis Costello still dwarfs Blair on the hipness scale... ;)

I'm not even a world leader, but I'd love to appear on the Simpsons.

I remember that episode! I was shocked! I also remember an episode where Grandpa Simpson said something to the effect of, "I kept getting checks in the mail for doing nothing, and I just thought the Democrats were back in power." LOL! Hmmmm.

LOL -- I don't think Clinton would provide an actual guest voice on The Simpsons after some of the shots they've taken at him. (They used a pretty good voice imitator. I supposed they figured that they might as well not bother asking the real Clinton to record such golden lines as "Hey, I'm a pretty lousy President.")
