The extent to which this White House is so completely different to Bush's - which has just delivered a massive tax cut, 45 per cent of which goes to the richest 1 per cent of US citizens - is underlined by the fact that Bartlett's Republican opponent for the presidency is so obviously based on Dubya. He is a dumb, folksy southern governor who is told by Bartlett, "I don't mind that you don't know much, but you've turned knowing nothing into a kind of Zen thing."

Someone needs to let this Brit in on the secret . . . not even the liberals call Bush stupid anymore. The preferred adjective on the hard left is now 'evil'.

Well, yes. This odd article captures some of America accurately, such as our vigorous defense of our citizens, but makes wild and hilarious mistakes. What's wrong with defending our citizens? Why should we take crap from anyone? This is portrayed as "American imperialism", but if we can help our citizens in trouble, defend them any where in the world, why shouldn't we?

I think the writer needs to read Machivelli's, "The Prince". He said "It is better to be feared than loved. There is a deterrent effect if people really believe we're going to level their country if they attack us or support those who attack us. This is not a Christian approach, but a pragmatic one.
