Another way to look at it is the socialist in America got their foot in the door when the Republican vote was split in 1912 and Wilson got elected. Although Taft was probably the best, Wilson may well have been better than Teddy. Teddy was a "trust-buster" and foreign interventionist. Wilson held out until 1917. Teddy would have been in by 1914.

Karl Marx would have been better than Wilson. At least Teddy would have sent troops to strangle communism in the cradle after entering the war on the wrong side so as to prevent the Germans from doing it afterwords. We know from Teddy's past performance he would not have been as bad as Wilson the destroyer of the civilized world.
