Mr. President, Mr. Secretary General, distinguished colleagues, I would like to begin by expressing my thanks for the special effort that each of you made to be here today.

This is important day for us all as we review the situation with respect to Iraq and its disarmament obligations under U.N. Security Council Resolution 1441.

'I am no expert on centrifuge tubes, but just as an old Army trooper, I can tell you a couple of things: First, it strikes me as quite odd that these tubes are manufactured to a tolerance that far exceeds U.S. requirements for comparable rockets.

Maybe Iraqis just manufacture their conventional weapons to a higher standard than we do, but I don't think so.'

You think that would be enough for most logical people.

given his determination to exact revenge on those who oppose him, should we take the risk that he will not some day use these weapons at a time and the place and in the manner of his choosing

Clearly his attempt on Bush I shows us this desire for revenge.

. Leaving Saddam Hussein in possession of weapons of mass destruction for a few more months or years is not an option,

It's coming in a matter of weeks, perhaps days.

Interestingly enough, I only got out of the kitchen long enough to hear that same quote during his speech, but I expected to see it on FR in it's entirety when I got home tonight.

For me it was like him "preaching to the choir".

Did Colin Powell even bother to mention the part about Hussein paying the families of suicide-bombers?

This "Saddam Hussein" guy set oil wells on fire, that burned uncontrollably(sp?) until American workers could figure out how to contain and extinguish them.

He says he'll do it again.

"You made my day. " I made my day, too.

I expected to see it already posted.

A heartfelt and proud bump for Colin Powell. Secretary Powell's stature and character are a shining light in a room of many despotic dictators
and barbaric rogues.

Thank you very much for posting this. Since I live in Japan and I don't have cable, I was hoping very much I would be able to get a transcript.
