California: Democrat Governor Davis will be served with recall papers on Wednesday
San Diego KOGO AM600, Roger Hedgecock Show | Feb 4, 2003

Posted on 02/04/2003 4:08:54 PM PST by John Jorsett

Ted Costa, of Paul Gann's group People's Advocate, just announced on the Roger Hedgecock Show in San Diego that a People's Advocate process server will be serving recall papers on Governor Gray Davis on Wednesday, February 5. Costa and his group has been involved in over a dozen ballot petition drives and has qualified every one of them that's he's undertaken. A recall drive will require around 1.2 million signatures to get a recall election on the ballot.

Costa said that contrary to what most people think, a recall can occur at any time after an election. It's only if a recall fails that a 6 month waiting period must be observed before another recall can be attempted. He cited the case of Paul Horcher, whose recall was initiated "within hours" of his election.

The People's Advocate website is not yet up, but will carry information about the recall effort in a few days.

Except that Davis has announced that he'll veto the increase.

The average Californian didn't vote. I'm talking about the ones that do. They simply won't recall the guy. Period. This is another useless CA-GOP... (Exact description deleted before the Admin Moderator gets a chance!)

What does the GOP have to lose in the Socialist Workers Republic of Kalifornistan?

When and if the libs ever figure it out, by then, Kalifornistan will be an agricultural Socialist paradise inhabited by peasants.

Kalifornistan is ranked #50 out of #50 for business in the US.

Well, we think that because that's what we've been told the last few weeks since this has come up. Did someone misread a statute, or is someone misinformed?

Yeah it's fear all right. I spoke with neighbor earlier in the week who I could of sworn was a liberal democrat. She said she can't stand Davis, and another neighbor went off on him a few minutes ago when I collected my kid from her house :)

Perhaps my neighborhood would be a good place to collect names for a petition after all.

Sound like your neighborhood would be a good place to start. I know, almost everyone in my area would sign a petition to remove this leftist, big government, screw worm.

Yeah, big deal. The fact of the matter is California is *the* 5th largest economy on the planet, I don't think we are hurting for businesses here in Cal buddy.

Maybe we can send some your way in Texas. Maybe it'll take a few people off the roads here.

And like I have said before, if 5 or 10 million people take off and leave tomorrow, I wont be broken hearted. As long as they just beat it.

Your in Texas? I will point them your direction. I hear there are a lot of Walmarts down there.

I heard it was 675,000 sigs??

The correct number is 879,136 valid signatures. That is 12% (from Article 2, Section 14(b) of the California Constitution) of the 7,326,133 people who voted for Governor this past November.

Therefore it is reasonable to aim for 1.2 million raw signatures, which would meet the target even if the validity rate was only 73%. Getting that many raw sigs also makes it likely that they could be validated through a sampling procedure, which would speed up the recall election by several weeks.

The statute (Election Code Section 11007(a)) which governs local recall efforts prevents recalls from occuring during the first 90 days of an official's term. That's probably where the confusion is. Recalls of statewide elected officers are not covered by that restriction.
