France is no longer an ally of the United States and the NATO alliance "must develop a strategy to contain our erstwhile ally or we will not be talking about a NATO alliance" the head of the Pentagon's top advisory board said in Washington Tuesday...

Actually, the Gauls were an ancient Celtic race.
The arrival of the Franks constitutes the "birth" of the "French", as we know them.
"Gallic" is linguistically related to Gaelic.
Please do not disparage those noble, although defeated Celtic warriors by calling them "French".....:)
In a related note, Spain was formerly Iberia, another stronghold of the Celts, hence the term Celto-Iberian.

I know this is Pentagon official speaking, and not necessarily someone Bush placed in office, but he was originally a Reagan official, too. Once again we are seeing a starkly different attitude and approach from this Republican administration than we would from any Democratic one. A Clinton or Gore guy would cower in fear that we aren't friends with the French, and would agonize over what we must be doing wrong.

While he may be a private citizen, he is derisively know as the 'Prince of Darkness' to his enemies. I think this is definitely a signal/treat being sent to the french.

My guess is that the EU will develop its military power. Someday, it may even be dominant. How much money do you want to lose disproving that notion?

1778 - February. France signs a treaty of alliance with the United States and the American Revolution becomes a world war. They only used us to get to the British, just as we used Stalin to get rid of Hitler.

The Kings of France were our allies until 1789.
Since then the French Nation has never been our ally. They grudgingly let us save their butts in WWI and WWII and hate us all the more for doing it.
When we capture the Iraqui records on where they have gotten their prohibited equipment the last few years, there are gonna be War Crimes Trials of both The French and German governments

I'll bet France is saying "Ooops!".

FWIW I attended a counter protest in Grand Rapids on January 29th. My son and I made 10 large, fluorescent colored signs. For the chagrin of the leftists, I intended to paint the following slogan...
Axis Of
Weasels
Germany
France
You
Working throughout the night I had a mental lapse and painted...
Axis Of
Evil
Germany
France
You
My kid pointed out to me an error in syntax just as I completed the spelling of the word 'Evil'. I thought about it and said, 'What's the difference- evil, weasel ? I like it better actually and I can't wait to carry it around'.
I have no illusions about France and I wouldn't substitute weasel for evil, for any reason now.

The smelly, cheese eating, fu-fu dressing French can't fight worth a damn. You TOO can conquer France!
I prefer "cheese eating surrender monkeys".

In my opinion, France has been the jealous little boy down the street; keeping up with the Jones' since WWII, when they woke up one day and found that they owed us their butts.
France has a misplaced superiority complex, and think they should have the world's leadership role.
They destroy their own economy with crushing socialism, causing a loss of financial means to compete with the United States.
Thus France tries to gain politically what they never can culturally and economically.
Sabotage of the U.S. position is just the ticket to gain that political advantage in the eyes of the rest of the world.

"It is now reasonable to ask whether the United States should now or on any other occasion subordinate vital
national interests to a show of hands by nations who do not share our interests," he added.
Oh Yesssssss, Very Clear and Well Stated Mr. Perle. Let them sleep on that tonight and the rest of their miserable and socialist lives. Someone had to say it and I cant wait to leave work today and see this on C-SPAN or somewhere on TV. It certainly wont be on your evening news tonight, you can be sure of that. It really would be an even more classic moment in History, if Mr. Perle was wearing a Power Red Tie when he made these comments.Go defend your (allegedly) smart ( and most assuredly )insolent and discourteous selves now France.Shoo! Your well on your way to being 100% Persona-Non-Grata with George W. Bush. You asked for it, you got it, now go sleep on it!
