France is no longer an ally of the United States and the NATO alliance "must develop a strategy to contain our erstwhile ally or we will not be talking about a NATO alliance" the head of the Pentagon's top advisory board said in Washington Tuesday...

Too true.
Unfortunately for their culture, those who remained were "Romanized", much like Great Britain's southern/eastern Celtic population.
My surname is the Latinized version of the ancient Pan-Celtic god Lug/Lugh. In Gaul, it was Lugus.
Thanks for chatting me up on my favorite historical subject....:)

Blimey. And I thought our historical dislike of the French was not something that could be duplicated.
Regards, Ivan
Our dislike of the French is a recently occurring phenomenon rather than a historical one, and it is the French themselves that have achieved this result through their Herculean efforts to remove all doubt as to what a sorry pack of ungrateful sons-of-bitches they are.

Having participated in more than a few of the famous NATO "REFORGER" (REturn of FORces to GERmany) exercises, I must admit that I would miss hearing the Frogs exchange radio calls in heavily accented English. Hearing that ROOOO....JA OOOOT!" at the conclusion of a conversation really tickled me. And you still have to give ONE segment of French Forces their due...the Foreign Legion still kicks ass even after all these years.
I fear the French are suffering from a serious case of....human nature. After all you have but two choices in the area of emotions towards somebody who has managed to save the collective asses of your countrymen not once but twice in the same century and that's either with gratefulness or dislike, and being grateful sucks over the long term. Still I suppose that having communists in control of the government has something to do with all of this.
Remember that line from the movie "Last of the Mohicans?" "The French are too busy making love with their faces...." Hmmmmmmmmmmm

But can you imagine how many sphincters are tightening at our own State Department reading this? LOL! Thanks for the heartwarming thought! I guess everyday brings a little victory against the forces of evil if you just take the time to look for it :)

French leaders have insisted the country will oppose any military action against Iraq without a second resolution by the United Nations Security Council, where it holds one of five crucial veto powers. In the end, the Frogs will come on-board for a very simple reason. Bush has made it clear that we will do what we need to with or with-out a UN resolution. He has also made it clear that the credibility and future of the UN depends on their insisting that their own resolution on Iraq be enforced.
The only thing that makes France a "Power" is that veto in the Security Council. If the UN collapses, that veto suddenly means nothing and no one need ever kiss-up to Paris again. Outside of the security council, they are totally unimportant. France becomes just another declining former colonial power without the prestige of that veto power. They won't allow that to happen. They like to play hard to get, but we know that they are whores in the end.

I was just reading an old article from the London Times, entitled, "Socialism of Fools." The article explains the current attitude of anti-Americanism in Europe as an outgrowth of the WWII era anti-Semitism. The author contends that both are an attempt by the left to personalize the struggle against capitalism (remember Saul Alinsky - Identify the enemy, freeze it, personalize it).
America, as well as Israel are the enemy of the Left, not just in Europe, but in our own country as well. The dangerous element here is that the emotional tactics of the leftist elites gather so many sheeple to fall in line behind them.

Come to think of it, if France started to act like a friendly, supportive nation, they would certainly cease to be the ally they once were.

Can we kick France out of the UN while we're at it?

have to state, "who gives a rat's ass" That's true. I hate to admit, but I had a brief moment of hope that a stern talking-to might make them stop acting like idiots, but I guess that's way too much to hope.
In any case, they're probably way more scared of their huge Muslim population than they are of us. So they're getting ready to surrender to their Muslims, while their Muslims are getting ready to attack all of France's (former) allies - which will make all of said allies attack France.
I wonder how the French think they're going to come out ahead with this behavior. Or maybe the French just - well, don't think.
