Developing. Watch MSNBC for latest. Internal memo shows some engineers believe there was up to a 7 1/2-inch gash from the foam breakoff at launch. Memo was serious enough to go out to all NASA centers two days before disaster.

You are too stupid to realize that the things he wrote about would NOT have saved the shuttle.
Or do you CARE about facts, Todd?

"To incorporate crew escape modules in the space shuttle requires that the piloting function be removed from the vehicle."
Not true under many other design considerations.
To: TLBSHOW; Miss Marple
Todd I am sure the investigators will take that memo into consideration .. along with the thousands of other documents
I agree with Miss Marple, before you start accusing NASA of sending this crew to their deaths on purpose, I suggest that you wait until ALL the facts are out
My point being .. CHILL OUT!!

No, they couldn't wait for the next shuttle. They only had enough air until Wednesday. Even assuming a very rapid launch time, the quickest they could have got next shuttle up was Saturday. AND please remember that no one knew the extent of the damage, only suppositions. AND there was no way to transfer from one shuttle to another. Please read the entire thread for pertinent information.

Dear Mr. President,
I am writing to you to urge that you immediately prohibit all travel in cars with internal combustion engines. These dangerous vehicles are a risky scheme that cause the deaths of over 40,000 Americans every year. If you don't ban these dangerous contraptions immediately, there will be more deaths on our highways and it will be all your fault.
Sincerely,
Al Gore, Jr.
P.S. They also pollute the environment for our children.

Maybe what incoherent people such as TARD seem to realize is; What if the crew and Houston were completely aware of the tile loss, but carried the mission on anyway because it was a very important matter of
National security.
We are at war, you know. And sometimes in war, very good people die.
To: Kevin Curry
We should have foreseen this debacle in 1957 and cancelled entire space effort.LOL! Yup!

It never really happened..., it was all staged, like the lunar landing....

I'm not interested in what you're listening to.
I'm interested in your stopping trashing NASA and George W. Bush.

No Tom but when there were problems brought up and Don pointed the finger at Clintons people as the cause of it. That should of set off a bell in The Presidents ear.
here if you even really read it. Its daming of Clinton.
Unfortunately, your new NASA Administrator has failed to recognize the eminent space shuttle danger and has accepted the consul of the pre-existing NASA shuttle management. These managers still pursue a management philosophy that has stagnated the safety upgrades efforts and perpetuates the staggering launch costs.
