For the second time in two years, President Bush spoke to console and grieve with the rest of the nation in remarks regarding the tragic loss of the space shuttle Columbia. Bush left Camp David early this morning and returned to the White House as he followed the events over the Texas sky. In his speech, Bush succinctly expressed the fears of by stating, 'The Columbia is lost; there are no survivors.' The President exchanged condolences with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as the first Israeli astronaut lost his life with six other Americans. All federal flags have been lowered to half-staff.

God bless the families of the brave souls who have joined the heavens they so willing chose to explore.

I am absolutely so saddened I sit here with tears streaming and such a longing for peace. But I want that peace to be real-forged with nations who love each citizen and permit the flow of GOD GIVEN FREEDOM to thrive. That is the only real peace. There is no peace in my heart as long as even one tyrannical beast is brutalizing those he controls.

Thanks for your post, BG, and your kind words. Here's the picture that Ilan Ramon carried into space with him by the boy held at the Nazi concentration camp.

This boy had a talent never allowed to mature; and Ramon carried that talent, as well as his own, into space, along with the dreams of the Israeli people.....not to be matured. Someone must carry their torch.....may someone rise up from that nation and reach for those dreams.

The love and respect and trust and desire to pray for and support this good man goes way beyond party affiliation-it goes-as you so eloquently stated in that PERFECT post-to the heart. What a conversation that must have been. I loved reading about it...

The space shuttle Columbia passes the Owens Valley Radio Observatory at 5:54 a.m. Saturday. The observatory is in Bishop, Calif. The camera is pointed north, and the shuttle is passing from west to east, from the left to the right of the photo. AP Photo

But now, the sentiment that we feel toward our president is beginning to spread into the hearts and minds of people who once had been ambiguous about and uninspired by the notion of leadership. The tough sells, that is.

You post brought tears to my eyes because I know it's true. And I believe it's happening because the people are beginning to thaw from the numbness that the deceit, treachery, betrayal, and the thievery that has gone on for so very long is slowly being lifted.....like a heavy fog becoming a mist....it's becoming more clear now for them. And the clarity frees their minds and allows them to feel, to hope again. And this is a very good thing. I think very good. It will be a long, long time (I hope and I pray) before they will ever allow themselves to be so deceived or numbed again.

Pippin--I hope he does read it!

Me too! Wouldn't that be just about it?! I would be dancing all around the house, giddy as a school girl, if this could somehow come to pass.

nic, I hope you didn't think I was being critical or unkind on that post I posted earlier, but I meant no disrespect of GWB. And I don't believe he'd ever lay down his responsabilities for any reason and God sustains him all the days of his life. I was only saying that if he did I would not blame him. But I meant no disrespect.

hehe.

I suppose I am frustrating the good efforts of our President to, er, 'change' the tone, as it were. But when it comes to tommy.....I sense something dark 'that this way comes'. So be it. :^)

I love you all and will be back. This is mutual, of course.

Besides....without your dry wit and targeted jabs, hehe, this thread could get downright boring.

Not necessarily. He said, 'change the tone in Washington'. I don't recall any stipulations about reducing the rate of weasel-bashing elsewhere in the nation.

By all means, maintain the old tone, my friend. Maintain the old tone :-)

Not to worry, I thought no such thing, not at all.

What it made me think of: How your words would ring true if Klintoon was in office. He is wishing, even at this moment, that he was the one in the limelight, that HE could be getting his ugly face on the news, that he could be the "leader" at this time; but in his heart, if he has such a thing, he would not be wanting any of this responsibility, he would be wishing to do something, anything, but dealing with these tragedies. Oh how disgusting it would be to hear his fake compassion on the telephones yesterday, calling the families. He certainly wouldn't have needed to go to a private room, as did Bush, to compose himself (and probably cry and pray) before speaking to the Nation.

The sadness in his eyes is heartbreaking. His words were perfect. Thank you, Lord, for this wonderful man.
