Dammit Joy361 beat me to it but here's a ((HUG)) for Inspectorette anyway...
Been hard for me today too. I was 11 at the time of the Challenger, at home that day cause it was a snow day. Didn't watch a lot of the news today (I have two sons ages 3 and 6. They kinda took over the TV and I was glad at one point to let them). Been reading the news on the Net most of the day.
And here I thought this week was gonna be bad enough with the talk about the upcoming war with Iraq. I live in the Hampton Roads area, my husband's boat (his screen name is Hostel) is stationed in nearby NAS Norfolk. Can't even begin to describe the vibe here.

When did they show that?

Hugs for you, it's been a numbing day. Prayer on the way for your hairdresser and her mother; and for the mom who doesn't know where her daughter is.

be centered over Shreveport, LA A dab south of there - more toward Alexandria or Leesville from DFW, but closer to the state line than those two Louisiana cities.

Severa, thank you. You've got a lot on your plate right now, too.
Talked to my daughter in Alexandria, VA, she's pretty upset, too. Her hubby is statinoned at the Pentagon, he's in Okinawa right now, just a short TDY, but they were supposed to transfer there this summer. That's all up in the air, she doesn't know where they're going to go, or when. She's used to it, though - been a military wife for nearly 13 years.
Bless you and your family and thank you for your service to our country.

A while ago I saw a hearse parked in a field on Fox News or the local ABC affiliate. It was next to a bunch of people standing around a roped off area which appeared to have a piece of metal in it.

I saw the helmet, Bill.
I think we've SEEN enough. The press needs to stop this, now.

What did they find? I didnt hear anything all day about any body parts....I'm sorry, but out of respect I would rather not give the details I heard. I am sure the sickening details will be available soon enough.
There is a pic being broadcast on cable news stations of an empty helmet. That is enough for me.

mombonn, thank you, and thank heaven for Free Republic. This is truly a family. While it's been unfortunate that there have been some threads that have gotten nasty today, overall, the outpouring of love and support that can be found here every day among Freepers is wonderful.
My dear departed Mom used to tell me that events such as births, weddings, and deaths bring out the best in people and also the worst in people. We've sure run the gamut of emotion today.
To: Bella
Thanks.
This sounds like they should of looked a little closer at the heat shield panel that was broken off...

Hemphill is where my parents are staying right now (In fact, they called earlier today and told me that they had heard the shuttle breakup). It is a very small town. I hope nothing was lost in the Toledo Bend lake. That body of water is huge.
To: Sungirl
That's right..and according to various articles I've read, some witnesses described various brightnesses and sounds.
