Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

I say that we give a flag with the mission pin emblem to every unit over there, waiting to pound these jerks back into the stone age.

I'm not angry with the DUers - theri stupidity and ignorance I have come to expect... here at FR, however, i was hoping that the people would be above that... but alas, there have been posts this morning blaming the columbia disaster on the fact that there were minorities on board, now I see my fellow freepers blaming it on Abortion (i.e. God is punishing us...) - no, I'm not bothered by teh freaks at DU - I AM sickened by the reactions of some of my fellow freepers...

RE: post #87
If you are going to put things into correct perspective by quoting the Son of God, all these nominal Christians won't have anything left to argue about. That passage is the pertinent one for today, BTW, so I thank you for using it.

They Iraqis should read Jesus. "The tower of Siloam that fell....were they worse sinners?"
"The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike."
Heck, some of the "Christians" on this thread should read Jesus' words.

"God's" vengeance kills 7. America's W-8 kills 2 million Iraqis give or take a million.

Even our enemies can speak truth. If this wasn't terrorism, then I believe God is removing His protection from America because of our heavy heavy sins. The only ships that have God's complete protection are those ships that never venture into harm's way.

>>Not to mention lashing out at "DU" when a minority of sickos says stupid things over there. They need a moderator there and we need moderation here. <<
Are you nuts? It is NOT a minority over there -- I checked it within minutes of when I knew -- the minority who called for compassion and sympathy were attacked unmercifully bu the majority.
We are understantably angry at the absolutley inhuman reaction to a very human tragedy. Iraq, DU, Palestine (I am waiting for that) -- this is a case of brave souls pushing the envelope of human experience and knowledge to make a better future dying in a terrible, terrible accident -- anyone who applauds such an incident is a valid and appropriate target of scorn, derision and understandable righteous indignation.
Liberal apologist!

Seriously, it is wacked out posts like that which end up being reported in the mainstream press as somehow being typical thought at FR. It's an embarrassment. In the words of Meg Ryan, "Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes."

"We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said. I hope we put down Mr. al-Quraishi for extra special treatment during the occupation of his country.

I'm having a really difficult time with the "love your enemies" thing. Our minister says we should pray for them.
May God have mercy on their souls, and may the United States military have none.
Was that OK? It's the best I can do.

Is this any less than what we expected out of them? People that think this way are to be pittied. In the end, they will be held responsible for their actions. Our lost souls are beyond reach of these words now. Nothing that can be said will prevent them from being pioneers of space and national heros for hundreds if not thousands of years.
