I posted to an earlier thread that my highschool classmate is the Flight Director at NASA.
I sent him my best and told him of the prayers being said for all the people at NASA by us Freepers
I knew he would be busy today, he will be giving the press briefing at 3:15 from Houston. His name is Milton Heflin.

In honor of the Columbia astronauts, would someone please post the official NASA picture of them, on this and every thread about this tragedy? Their faces deserve to be remembered. Thanks...

Read this tidbit from the msn.com website article "Space Shuttle Breaks Up During Re-entry" (http://msnbc.com/news/857733.asp?0cv=CA00#BODY)
"A U.S. official also told Miklaszewski that a heat spike appeared on military satellite data around the time shuttle was reentering - it is being examined to see if it correlates to the shuttle and it breaking up. The highly-sensitive infrared satellite, known as the DSP, originally was developed to detect the heat spike of Soviet ICBM launches. As ground controllers gained familiarity and confidence in its capabilities, it has been used to detect everything from oil fires to volcanic eruptions the the explosion of TWA 800 in 1996. "

Here is a screen saver I made this morning. It is sized 800x600 and 1024x768.
Right click down download for 800 x 600.
Left click, then right click download for 1024x768.

NASA officials should have a canned response for some of these idiots:
"Do you get paid for thinking up the dumbest possible questions for us, or did your boss just send the dumbest reporter our here?"
