President Bush will address the nation from the Oval Office on the Columbia tragedy, after calling the Prime Minister of Israel to give his condolences.
There have already been mid level diplomatic exchanges of sorrow between the two nations.

I was watching CNN and someone on the phone began talking about the beautiful scripture President Bush quoted...anchor Darin Kagen CUT HIM OFF very, very rudely, saying that there were other parts of this story that needed to be covered Unbelievable.....well, no, considering the source, not really.
and CNN wonders why their ratings are dropping?

there were already some who were criticizing him for not speaking even sooner. Some people think they have to have instant gratification. Are you serious??
Good Grief, people died and the media is upset because the President doesn't move fast enough for them
These people are like spoiled brats ..

Somewhere yesterday (no time to look it up now, sorry) I read a quote that said no President has been called on to give the speech of his life more times than George W. Bush (paraphrased). And he's come through every time.I think this was in Frum's book or possibly Woodward's or maybe it was Simon's. Anyway, the story is that before his Address to Congress and the Nation on September 20, 2001 he was hearing all the media and pundits talk about how "this has to be the speech of his life." His response to all this was that he's given the "speech of his life" so many times now that it doesn't mean anything. Even Tony Blair was a bit awestruck with how comfortable the President was during the hours leading up to the speech. Evidently, he suggested to Bush that he take some time for himself and practice or think about his speech. Bush just said, "no, I know what I want and have to say."
I think this was in Woodward's book.

I DID turn it off, Jenny...I was so angry and disgusted that I had to. Notice how they're not replaying the President's words? Wonder if they will later on...many citizens missed it and they should have many chances to hear it, IMO. The media can't handle the fact that he is a Christian...well, that's just tough!

Thanks for posting the transcript.
What beautiful sentiments. I take back my earlier post. Totally perfect selection of scripture. Well done, Mr. President, well done.

Actually, I was referring to the news from Iraq, but your informational point is far more interesting than that hideous story.

And CNN was scooped by MSNBC this morning. I turned on the TV to see the landing because I am still thrilled by the very accomplishment and CNN had two chicks clucking about something or other. As it was getting close to touch down I switched to MSNBC and they were already on the story.

Here ya go:
THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE: Few presidents have had to give the speech of their life more often than George W. Bush. Tuesday night Bush had to rally the nation in time of war; persuade allies to support the use of military force in Iraq; and reassure Americans he is mindful of the struggling economy, unemployment and gaping holes in societys safety net . . . . [Bush] is good at conveying confidence and strength, and certainly did last night. (Editorial, The Houston Chronicle, January 29, 2003)
