Didn't it get mothballed at that big aerospace museum/graveyard outside Moscow? The Russian shuttle flew once, but only as a drone. After the communist collapse, the orbiter was bought on the cheap and turned into a restaurant in Gorky Park.

They will have a lot of data that will be embargo'ed, I'd expect, but bits like you picked up, will occur. After the Challenger disaster, all our real-time computer tapes and logs were put under guard.

I would have thought that 200,000 feet up would be so hoigh and the air so thin or non-existant, that we wouldn't hear anything. An explosion in space isn't heard by anyone if there's no air to carry to sound. Guess I'm wrong.

I don't know SneakyPete, I think we're all edified by their passing. Despite the known risks these folks pressed forward. They are at once one of the saddest and most magnificent examples of humanity. Instead of being less, I think we are greater for their showing what humans are capable of in the face of constant danger.
I know what you meant and I agree with that too. We have lost a part of us today.

Everything OK in your area this morning? Did you hear/see anything? Yes. Everything's fine.
I heard it at my house. Nothing hit here tho. So did my friend in North Dallas. So did my Dad in east Texas. It was so loud, Dad went out to see if anything hit his house. See my post #1973 on this thread, also, FRiend...

The left wing was damaged during launch by a piece of insulation foam that detached from the main fuel tank. The last voice communications from the crew involved a tire pressure message. Communications were then garbled and static. Contact with the shuttle was lost at about 9 a.m. EST. I wonder if they guessed they would never come back. Was any attempt made to check the damage or fix it while they were up? Loss of the insulation tiles has always been the biggest danger in shuttle reentry.

She wasn't behind the controls. She was " upstairs" - belted in, and a "passenger" at the time of the breakup.
The pilots were on the level below.

Thank you.

Thanks..
A "thermal event" could be some kind of failure on the shuttle itself.. That's what I was wondering.
Explosion?

Do you realize how silly that sounds?

CNN always has better coverage than FOX on ANYTHING to do with real news. The first thing I did was switch from FOX to CNN. I need to remind everyone about the CNN coverage of the postal hostage yesterday. She had run from the truck to safety and the CNN big-mouths talked for almost 4 minutes about everything else before they realized they had missed her exit. I have it on video...they thought the postal work with the police was a "third party" getting involved. Purely hilarious footage.

Right over Palestine TX........???
CNN reports that shuttle exploded right over Palestine, Texas. This has no bearing of my knowledge of Texas, how you pronounce the word Palestine, where a command post is set up, or what ever name you want to call me. PALASTINE is also spelled different....
The Point is that the dirtballs in the media are trying to make a connection. There is more than a few towns to choose from. It is clear to me what they are trying to do. If this escapes you I cannot help you.
THAT is the whole point.
