There was an explosion at a plastic diaper factory in BelleMead NJ back over ten years ago -- as I recollect a chemical reactor went wild, and similar blast effects.

Prayers for my fellow Carolinians. For someone who asked on a previous post - the rumor a plane flew into a building got started because people in the nearby school had their windows blown out and someone in the school thought it was a plane that had caused the damage. It was an assumption based on experience from 9/11.

I just heard the guy from that school say they had ten buildings damaged.

The most damage was in the warehouse area. Looks like the office area is intact.

Sickening thoughts: How far is this place from the coast and how far is it from I-95/I-40? (putting tin-foil hat on firmly) Could it be...AQ test firing a stinger?

WRAL pointing out that they are fighting this fire from a considerable distance -- maybe afraid of another explosion.

Carolina put on alert to expect as few as 2, as many as 30 patients.

This fire has been burning for TWO HOURS.

KINSTON, North Carolina (CNN) -- An explosion at a pharmaceutical supply plant in Kinston, North Carolina, killed several people and injured others Wednesday, authorities said, sending clouds of black smoke billowing into the sky.

The explosion at West Pharmaceuticals, which makes syringes and other plastic medical supplies, occurred shortly before 2 p.m.

Kinston City Manager Ralph Clark said the explosion blew doors open on houses more than one-and-a-half miles away.

"It was a tremendous explosion," he said. Clark said it was an internal explosion at the plant.

Jack Lambert of Segrave Aviation also described a massive explosion. "It blew the roof off a good 400 feet down the road," he told CNN.

The cause of the explosion was under investigation. Dozens of emergency crews were on the scene, including about seven emergency helicopters to airlift people out.

A police spokesman said there were "multiple casualties." Asked if that meant multiple people killed, he said, "Yes."

Linore Hospital in Kinston said at least three people, all burn victims, were in critical condition. They said more people have been brought to the hospital for treatment.

Fire department ladder crews were aiming multiple jets of water at the top of the building where flames and black smoke were pouring through the twisted metal.

Smell of rubber is the roof exploded and it's a rubber roof (quoting spokesperson on CNN). Thought I'd give them a chance for reporting since we're getting most of our news from Fox here. Also, CNN reporting trading for this company has been stopped on Wall Street.

A gas explosion might not have had the window breaking as described -- not as big a shock front once it gets out. I've been through a gas explosion.

Geeez. I always think terrorism first, the other options later.
It's suppose to be the other way around.
I must be spooked.

They showed the triage area a while ago. Not very many people there. I don't know how many are employed there, but I am afraid not very many got out.

They are just hoping some may trapped in an area they can get to soon. Prayers for those injured and the families and that they find more alive.
