Wonder how the plane rumor got going so fast?Simple. All the major media - sadly I include Fox New in this - are on a jihad against general aviation.
It seems that they just can't stand it when an individual learns how to conquer nature by flying over their heads in a machine without their permission.
Sadly, most Americans (and most FReepers) feel the same. After all, it's the age of envy. No individual should aspire to that which the masses cannot have, right?

I live in kinston and I can look from my work and see the column of smoke. I know 10 people who work there at different shifts, some on first. They all go to my church and all prayers for them and there family would be appreciated. Initial reports on the local scanner traffic indicated a plane crash, but this has been refuted. Lots of chemicals at this site.

"Huge burn unit in Chapel Hill at Carolina." Sadly, it isn't all that huge. Ability to take in these folks is going to be determined by the number of patients already in the limited number of beds and the number of those needing beds after this. We need more burn centers in this country. After researching burns when my daughter was injured, I found it disturbing that there is such a limited number of burn beds nationwide.

Many accurate posts were pulled on September 11 from this site so pulling #121 today no problem.
You would know this how, since your signup date is in 2002?

Several thousand miles away from where, exactly?

A few tons of burning plastic burning will produce all the toxic chemicals anyone could ever want. It take very special equipment to get in close and fight a fire like this and I doubt the local firefighters have much of it. This is correct.
Plus with the explosion, the firefighters on the scene have major worries about further structural collapse.
The scene looks alot like a "surround & drown" scenario fighting the fire from defensive positions until it can be determined if the scene is safe enough later to warrant an offense fire attack plan.
My prayers are with all involved, my God keep my fellow firefighters safe in their endeavors.
Let's Roll!

"I'm glad they've got a good burn unit, but the survivors are going to go through hell. Recovering from burns is hideous and painful. "So true. Been thru it with my child. It is HORRIBLE. The things I aw while she was in the burn center at Chapel Hill will NEVER leave me.

M,
There's a 50/50 chance that the forklifts in that warehouse are electric. My plastic company standardized on electric forklifts to reduce fire risks and overall insurance costs.
I do not believe that liquid propane used with forklifts has anywhere near the chemical potential of compressed natural gas or other substances.

So plastic plant explosions happen all the time???Yeah, actually, they do. Or, more accurately, industrial accidents occur daily. Some are more spectacular and deadly than others.

Prayers up.
Any idea on the 'blast power' from a propane tank on the tow motors? Close to shift change, they're pretty busy in that part of a plant, putting away the finished product.

I think the T word must be seriously considered until it can be ruled out. This would be conceding Victory to the Ts. That's Their Thing.

There are no biologicals, I would wager. They are a generic drug house. I don't know how they place the nitrates on isosorbide, but I'm sure there is some explosive potential in the raw materials. Here's the list I have of what they make:
ALPRAZOLAM
AMILORIDE-HCTZ
AMINOPHYLLINE
APAP/BUTALBITAL/CAFFEINE
ASA/BUTALBITAL/CAFFEINE
ASCORBIC ACID
ATENOLOL
ATROPINE/HYOSCYAM/PB/SCOPOL
CAPTOPRIL
CARBIDOPA-LEVODOPA
CARISOPRODOL
CHLORHEXIDINE TOP
CHLOROQUINE
CHLOROTHIAZIDE
CIMETIDINE
COLCHICINE
CORTISONE
CYCLOBENZAPRINE
DICYCLOMINE
DIFLUNISAL
DILTIAZEM
DOXYCYCLINE
EPHEDRINE
FLURAZEPAM
FOLIC ACID
GEMFIBROZIL
HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE
HYDROCORTISONE
INDOMETHACIN
ISONIAZID
ISOSORBIDE DINITRATE
ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE
KETOPROFEN
LISINOPRIL
LITHIUM
METHOCARBAMOL
METHYLDOPA-HCTZ
MULTIVITAMIN W/MINERALS
NAPROXEN
NIACIN
PHENOBARBITAL
PIROXICAM
PREDNISONE
PROPOXYPHENE
PROPYLTHIOURACIL
