Spain has shown the same level of commitment as Italy. The Irish are also allowing Shannon to be used to refuel US jets headed to the Gulf.
There are allies - but at the same time, Italy is not sending 25% of its army to the Gulf; only we are showing that much commitment.

only we are showing that much commitment. America has no better friend than the British. A big THANK YOU from the other side of the pond, amigo.

Lets be clear: France and Germany have picked their side and it is not the right one. History will show the Germany-American alliance was temporary and due to the situation of the two countries at the end of the war. Germany is now moving back to its evil roots despite it's 'pacifist' veener.

He blithers like he is going to live forever. Frankly, if the US can catch him alive and keep him incommunicado in a prison, it will. But he will probably hole up in his underground compound and I'd bet that as someone suggested, his own men will pour concrete down the entrance.

Yep.
I myself like Italian cooking more than French cooking, mostly because French cooking nowadays has too much emphasis on the dish looking good instead of the dish tasting good. Anyone for rigatoni with meat sauce? :-)

If you look at the history of southern Europe, both Spain and Italy have been invaded by Muslims. The last of the Moors were run out of Spain about the same time that Columbus was visiting the West Indies. These folks understand the danger of a Muslim nation gaining the upper hand. They know what evil looks like.
A similar condition exists in eastern Europe, where the Moors envaded. However, America's actions in the former Yougoslavia have dampened their support for American policy. Serbia and Greece would have been natural allies, but the actions of the Clinton administration in Yougoslavia have made them very reluctant. There is also the Turkey vs. Greece problem. If we have Turkey on our side, the Greeks will probably not support us and Turkey is needed for a launching platform.
As for the Germans and the French, Germany and France both have strong anti-Semitic leanings. They figure that the outcome would be favorable to the Israels and therefore is not desirable. Additionally, both countries have large Muslim populations, especially France.
Besides, who needs them? We are strong enough to beat Iraq. We're not looking for fighting allies as much as we're looking for vocal allies. We already have allies who will fight (Britian and Israel), we need a bunch of countries who will stand up and say America is doing the right thing.

France and Germany helped Iraq set up it's nuke program. They are just trying to cover up their own misdeeds!

Of course, we all know that if the Italians had dared to disagree with the U.S. freepers would going crazy with making comparisons to Mussolini. El duce's picture would be posted in nearly every message.

That's right, Italy has not ignored history.
