What was your favorite quote from the SOTU tonight?
January 28, 2003

And why. Why do you believe in that particular quote? How does it affect conservatism? How does it affect our war on Terror? How does it affect 8 years of the previous socialist/communist state we were supposed to embrace?

Thank you Indy. Glad to be someplace where my voice can be heard. I don't let the other people bring me down. Don't worry. What they don't realize is that what I'm doing is allowing everyone in this country to retain the ability to voice their opinion. No matter what that opinion might be.

Jobs are created when the economy grows; the economy grows when Americans have more money to spend and invest; and the best and fairest way to make sure Americans have that money is not to tax it away in the first place.

What makes the previous occupants so distasteful, is Ronald Reagan was just president. He worked hard for eight years to restore American values, and he succeeded. It didn't take long for those values to erode. Hopefully, we can regain that spirit again.

"Bennett retorted, "Well, what did Hitler ever do to us?"

I liked that too. We've gotten off a lot of great shots at the RATS tonight.

Aren't you weary of the one line quips that pass for analysis on this forum?

Well, I for one find the humor to be one of my top reasons for visiting. And I'll go out on a limb and say that I'm in the majority here. I would glaze over (and leave soon thereafter) if all I ever read were dry discourse.

That said, some of the in-jokes get stale with time from overuse. If that is what you were referring to, then I would concur. In my particular case, I often find that someone has already stated my thoughts more eloquently or succinctly than I would have, and given the choice between saying "Ditto!" or making a flippant remark, I'll usually choose the latter.

Even if you suspend your disbelief enough to accept the premise of energy efficiency on a hydrogen-based system, what are the chances that Exxon, Mobil, BP, et al are going to race to embrace.

Not too bad, actually. My local Wal Mart doesn't sell any sort of hydrogen converter as of yet, and I'm quite sure we will see Exxon Hydrogen, Mobil Hydrogen (with Techrobang), et al. emblazoned on the "gas" pumps of the future. While hydrogen is the most common element in the cosmos, its not like Joe Schmuckatelli can distill the stuff out of the air with a homebrew Heathkit as of yet.

'And just like you -- the members of Congress, and your staffs, and other federal employees -- all seniors should have the choice of a health care plan that provides prescription drugs. (Applause.) My budget will commit an additional $400 billion over the next decade to reform and strengthen Medicare.'

I thought there was a War on Drugs. Silly me, The government seems to be handing it out like candy, on tax money. It just keeps getting bigger, 80% of the budget on SS and Medicare, and it's all failing. Public housing, public transportation, (sickening) public schools, public medicine, government cheese. I thought there was $40 billion in Medicare fraud and waste just last year alone; does Medicare deserve another dime? Who cares anyway, it sounds good on tv and it's only a few hundred billion more. lol, we're in trouble.

I don't have the exact quote, but it was a slam against the previous administration for not fullfilling it's duties. This president will strive to make sure the next president will not be left 'holding the bag'. I won't go into those details, we all know them.

Indy, I'm sure your well meaning but your didactic teachy
tone is a real PITA. Lighten up - carry on a conversation -
or give up FR and take up teaching 5th grade, where I'm sure you will have a rapt aucience.

I noticed several time tonight that hillary looked unhappy when standing along with the others to applaud. I guess it could have just been the discomfort of lifting that oversized rearend of hers in and out of that chair.

"The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity."
This is my favorite as well. I was at Speech Watching party, and we all stood up and cheered loudly! LOL And we hooted and jeered Gary Locke as well. He is my Gov. A nice enough guy but has bankrupted our state (2+ BILLION) through spending and increasing state workers by 3x. How he gets off talking about finances is beyond me. I guess all the other Dems were running for President and he was the only one left. hehehe

I have to say that my favorite, most gripping moment was right before the President spoke of the heavy responsibility a President has when he sends our military into battle -- I'm sure he had tears in his eyes. He was certainly blinking a lot -- definitely had an emotional moment. Me too -- America is definitely with you, US Military!!!

We will not deny, we will not ignore, we will not pass along our problems to other Congresses, to other presidents, and other generations.
