Things to do to help FR get a higher ranking:
1) Make more hits on FR.
2) Respond to a good post.
3) Make FR your home page, so you get a hit when you open your web browser.
4) Send an FR discussions link to a friend who might be interested. Encourage them to sign up to FR.

Do the stats in the article reflect hits only on FR's main page? I very rarely go through the main page; my FR link is to the 'Latest Posts' page.

incredibly vulgar language This seems to be the standard way liberals communicate with one another -- at least when on line.

What are the ranking charts actually measuring? There isn't an Eschelon system tabulating all web site accesses, is there?

I never realized Free Republic was that high up in the rankings. There are hundreds of thousands of websites out there but only 1250 websites get more hits than Free Republic! When you consider the millions of dollars being poured into websites such as Amazon.com, Google, Yahoo! and WIRED, you gain an appreciation for the enormity of this achievement.
A review of DU shows a very open forum, allowing (and perhaps encouraging) incredibly vulgar language. The users of Freerepublic.com are held to strict limits on vulgar language, and freerepublics posters generally have a sharp sense of humor and fun.
For all the crap Free Republic gets for its moderators and so-called "censorship", we can all be thankful that we are not the cesspool that is DU. And that's just what this website would become if we didn't police it.

Do you know what percentage of the top sites are porn?

Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting it. The Limbaugh graph is particularly notable. He gets a tremendous number of hits while he's on the radio (the "Dittocam" and all that), hence the regular spikes during the work week, but his hits plummit each weekend. And note the lack of the usual weekday spike in late December when he was on vacation and reruns and/or guest hosts were on the air.
Free Republic also seems to do better on weekdays than on weekends (though of course the trend isn't nearly as extreme as Rush's), which surprises me a little. Are we FReeping on company time at work? :-) Or is it just that weeknights have more news to react to than weekends?

Proud to provide a few hundred hits a day and $50.00 / quarter to FR, the "stickiest" site on the web (to use the vernacular of the dot com bubble days.)
The only conclusion to be drawn from the stats on FreeRepublic's growth is that there are alot of SUV-driving, gun-owning, tax-paying, law-abiding, right-wing crazies out there in internet land.
Happy to be among FRiends.

The sharpness, clarity, logic, and humor at freerepublic.com really becomes evident when compared to bartcop or DU.
Ha ha ha. Yeah!
Notice how the peaks at Rushlimbaugh.com track with those at Freerepublic? It looks like a solar cycle plotted against warming/cooling trends.

Wish we had a left wing "Daddy Whorebucks" like Salon has who'd will drop $200K at a pot to keep Joe Conason out of the steam baths.
Ever notice Joe Conson only writes for outlets that take "personal ads"?
