Peterson continuing to stay mum

Peterson continuing to stay mum

By PATRICK GIBLIN
BEE STAFF WRITER

John Walsh, the host of TV's "The John Walsh Show" and "America's Most Wanted," said he has pleaded with Scott Peterson to answer questions and make a public statement.

Peterson refused, Walsh said Sunday after taping "The John Walsh Show" in Modesto.

"I talked to Scott on the phone for about 45 minutes and his parents for about an hour," Walsh said in the lobby of the DoubleTree Hotel. "I said, 'You need to show you are cooperating with the police fully, and you need to clarify the situation.'"

Peterson's wife, Laci Peterson, vanished Christmas Eve. Scott Peterson told police he went fishing that morning and his wife had plans to walk their dog in East La Loma Park.

Since then, police have said they have not been able to eliminate Peterson as a suspect in his wife's disappearance. Laci Peterson's family said two weeks ago that police told them Scott Peterson was having an affair, a report that Peterson has called "a bunch of lies."

Peterson has not given an extensive media interview since his wife disappeared, though he has talked briefly with some reporters.

A volunteer center used to coordinate efforts to find Laci Peterson was closed the day after police talked to her family.

Friday, the Modesto Police Department held a news conference where 28-year-old Fresno area resident Amber Frey said she had a recent romantic relationship with Peterson, but did not know he is married.

Walsh said he told Peterson that the affair is "old news" and the investigation needs to refocus on finding Laci. He said he reminded Peterson that the parents of Danielle van Dam, a 7-year-old who was murdered last year in San Diego County, came forward and admitted that their lifestyles didn't meet everyone's moral standards.

"That put everyone's attention back on the victim, and a man was arrested and then convicted for the murder because the parents stepped up to the plate," Walsh said he told Peterson. "That's what you need to do."

Despite the conversation, Peterson still declined to appear on Walsh's shows, which will air at 2 p.m. Thursday on KQCA-58.

"We just don't understand why he won't talk," Walsh said. "I told him that when Adam went missing, I would have stood naked in the middle of Times Square and let people shoot at me just to get my son back."

Adam, Walsh's 6-year-old son, disappeared in Florida in 1981 and was found murdered. No one was ever convicted in the case. The incident prompted Walsh to lobby for children's rights and to host the show "America's Most Wanted."

No comment from Peterson family

Peterson's parents had agreed to an interview for the show, but changed their minds after talking to Scott, Walsh said.

"Scott's father called up and said he agreed it was time for Scott to start defending himself," Walsh said.

Steve Howard, spokesman for the Peterson family, said Sunday he did not have any comments on the case.

"Nothing is pending," Howard said. "There's nothing I can say right now."

Without Peterson, Walsh spent his morning filming in front of the Peterson home on Covena Avenue.

She met him on Nov. 30th

Amber was introduced to Scott on Nov. 20th, not that it makes too much difference, but just in order to keep us all correct.

Thanks to you both for the correction. I must have heard "November 30" when she said "November 20." Even so, she barely knew the guy.

Are you serious about it being "suspicious" for a man to keep an affair secret? I think most men try to keep their affairs a secret.

Are you serious about it NOT being suspicious? It is not the point at all that he wanted to keep the affair secret. Yes, I agree most would keep affairs secret, the suspicion lies in his inactivity and his uncooperative attitude towards concern in finding his wife. Futhermore, he refuses to be accomadative to authorities so he can outright clear himself of any suspicion so police may concentrate their effots in the right direction. At best he’s an arrogant selfserving asshole that has proven he has no concern or care for his wife OR his child to be. At worst he KNOWS what happened and is lower than whale crap!

The affair just raises eyebrows because it lends plausibilty towards a motive.

I have not said SP is guilty, but he sure has brought questions to his credibility, which btw, if he would lie about an affair, he sure as hell would lie about murdering his wife and child! The more he remains silent the more suspicion he will bring upon himself.

99.999% of men who have affairs on their 8 month pregnant wives that are missing don't go into total silence and suppress vital information.

Well, I hope they have something good.

I am thinking they probably don't, or don't think they do. The reason I think that is because the way they are announcing things and prancing out one of his girlfriends and all, it seems like they are trying to smoke him out. If they thought they had something good coming, they would play it cool and bust him when they could. This makes it seem like they don't have a case, but suspect him and want him to make a move, so they will have something to use against him.

Yeah, Kim...you can be sweet off the dw threads too.

Mrs. Liberty, you haven't lived till you've seen some of Kim's and mine really classic, ballastic, on the brink of Nuclear War posts to each other...BUT we survived!

Enough said.

Well, to each his/her own. If you choose to defend Furhman that is your perogative just as it is for the other poster to disbelieve him ( and personally, I still associate him with the negativity of the OJ trial but realize that he was in a tough position. Doesn't excuse his dishonesty but I understand why he felt he had to do what he did ).

As for the sarcasm, I didn't see a tag that normally follows indicating such but oh well. It simply appeared to be a childish insult that I believed you to be above resorting to.

The "if you can dish it you can take it" motto must be a hard one for some to live by. I prefer the "treat others as you would be treated"...but that's just me.

Take care.

Does the ex-girlfriend have on a Laci ribbon? Am I right that she met Scott 3 weeks before his wife disappeared? Is that long enough to be considered a girl-friend? I wonder how many times she saw him in those 3 weeks. Also total time spent together. And is "romantic relationship" PC for "we didn't have sex until 3 hours after we first met"?

Dan also said that Scott Peterson is going to make a public statement tomorrow? Something along the lines of:

"I regret the pain I have caused because I had a romantic relationship. It was wrong. Now, let's focus on finding Laci. It's not about me. It's about Laci."

I don't even need to watch.

The Police have no real proof at this point

Right, as far as we know. I think that Ms. Frey might have some vital information.

What I find hard to take (IMO) is SP uncaring attitude toward finding his wife and clearing himself of suspicion.

I do treat others as they treat me...So I disappointed you? It isn't a popularity contest.

Disbelieving someone? How delicate of you. The word was LIAR. There's the difference.

What kind of woman expects to spend Christmas with a guy she has only known for a month?

A needy or desperate or immature woman might. Take your pick, or all three!

Oh, so I guess Scott himself isn't gonna talk?

Got to admitt, keeping HIS mouth shut is getting the desired effect.

His lawyer has the easiest job on earth "just shut up, Scott...this too shall pass"...

Has the insurance policy been confirmed? I've heard it reported, but only as rumor or innuendo. If he set his insurance up that way, and then killed his wife in a pre-meditated manner, then he's a major dumbass! The reason I ask is because I had an acquantance that was charged with the murder of his fiance, and after he was exonerated, it was amazing to see what all the media reported that was absolute BS! Just asking.

Well, here is the thing. I am not sure what kind of questions the detectives are formulating, but I would do a similar background on Scott as those trying to be employed in LE... Meaning, who are 'all' his friends, work clients, jobs, family members in contact with, where he has been in the past on vacation, sight seeing, fishings spots, hobbies, etc....
To me, that would help to focus on SP's lies, and what is actual truth, and possibiliteis of known spots he could of dumped Laci.
And mostly, who was the third player who introduced him to Amber, a friend, an associate?

in the long run, I think it was a heated domestic violence case, that was accidental; or could be planned all along to murder Laci..> The insurance thing kind of bugs me for getting it after she got pregnant....
