Man Fatally Shot While Beating Dog With Shotgun
Police: Weapon Must Have Discharged As Man Beat His Shar-Pei

WINCHESTER, Va. -- A man was shot fatally while trying to beat his dog to death with a shotgun, Winchester police said.

Police say the man called his wife at work Thursday and told her that their dog had bitten him and he intended to kill it.

Police say the wife Raymond Poore Jr. found him covered with dog bites and suffering from a shotgun wound to his abdomen. He died later at Winchester Medical Center.

Police say the shotgun must have gone off while Poore was using it to beat the 30-pound Shar-Pei. The stock of the weapon was broken and there appeared to be blood and dog hair on it.

A Winchester animal control officer took custody of the dog. There's no word on how badly it was injured.

He didn't just shoot the dog because he was a sadistic bas***d who probably tormented the dog into attacking him in the first place. He got what he deserved.

Right on! I bet this guy tormented the dog and finally the dog bit him. Animals aren't that stupid and also have a breaking point when abused and tormented.

The guy got what he deserved and probably should have been arrested for abuse long before that. Nobody should treat a fine firearm that way.

I'm not an expert on pets. Had a cat and had to give her up because of allergies. Got a bunny and found out that I was also allergic to her (but we kept her anyway.) Now we have a parrot..I'm not allergic to feathers. But I can say that an animal will respond according to the love or cruelty you display.
All of our animals instantly bow their heads when I approach because they know they're going to get lots of head-scratching and general cuddling.

Sounds like the tormented Shar-Pei gave Ray a good working over after he hit the floor gut-shot.

Probably went eye-to-eye with the pooch before lapsing into unconsciousness.

Definetly karma.

This is not a new phenomenon. Not too long ago a man tried to bash someone's car windshield with the blunt end of a shotgun and the discharge did him in, I recall.

My folks have a cat that used to love rubbing his face on my knuckles. If I tried to pet him, he'd get bored fairly soon. If I held my hand at his level, made a fist, and held it still, he would stop and rub his face for a long time. He also used to rub his face on the bottom of athletic shoes if someone were sitting in a recliner with feet sticking out. It took some getting used to. At first, I'd feel something and move my feet. I'd either accidentally kick him or just scare him. Once I knew what to expect, I'd just let him do his thing before he wandered to other cat activities.

Glad the dog won; and the SOB owner now gets to meet his Maker and explain why he was beating his poor dog.

I concur. Y'know, this guy was profoundly stupid. Looky here...

The firearm in question has an *external* hammer, so unless the dog landed a well-aimed kick right on that hammer spur, the fool manually cocked the thing before deciding to use it as a club. Too bad... about the damaged gun and injured dog.

Cats are unique. My daughter's friend has a Maine Coon. He is, by far, the most intelligent and lovable cat I've ever seen. He extends his paw to say "thanks" and actually verbalizes when you talk to him.
Cats all have their particular behaviors. Your folks' cat wants loving, but he also wants to run the show. (I knew a lot of men like that. LOL)

The Maine Coon are pretty large cats aren't they?
We have been partial to the Manx breed for the last twenty years.
We currently have a rumpy, no tail, no nub, that is pretty intelligent.
Curiously, they can't really meow like a regular cat and just make little mewling noises. So she scratches at the door like a dog when she wants in or out.
And loves the dogs, will get right down and roughhouse with them. Very amusing.

Not the typical 2nd Amendment success story, but a fine result nonetheless (assuming the dog makes a full recovery).

When he was a kitten, he wouldn't let anyone hold him. I used to catch him and hold him in my lap. He would cry as if he were being tortured, but he got used to people. He now spends much of his life sleeping in my Dad's lap.

BTW, I am a man that likes to run the show. LOL
