The woman who spoke was her mother. Her half sister seemed too upset to speak. I noticed that she had a statement (or something) in her hands and suspect she was too upset to speak.

Please, what was the gist of the news conference? Are they saying they think Scott killed Laci?

No, the Peterson family isn't there. This is only an event for the Rocha family. From what I read, the two families are no longer communicating.

I'm wondering what this might do to a potential Scott Peterson defense; this could be something an attorney could use to assert pre-trial prejudice against SP could it not? I'm just a little leery whether this is such a good idea in the long run.

Although if it coaxes a confession or a rash act on SP's part ... more power to it!

Both Scott's brother and his father have been on TV the last two nights, saying it isn't true, that there were only pictures from a party, that there was no affair.

The brother also said that he and his sister have been to the marina and talked to THREE people who saw Scott that day -- wonder why they haven't bothered to go to the police and clear Scott's name?

Laci's brother Brent said something like "I wish I were there to protect you, etc.etc."

He'd love to beat the crap out of Scott, but he'd have to get in line after Laci's Dad.

I wish Laci's family had specifically asked him to take a lie detector test. Unless they know from the police that the evidence is that Lacis is indeed dead. It almost seems like that.

Not in so many words, but it's pretty clear they think he did. It was hard to watch, to see people in so much pain.

No, the family wouldn't directly implicate Scott, but asked him to cooperate with Modesto police. But Laci's brother did confirm his telephone conversation w/ Scott on January 16, regarding his affair with a woman in Fresno.
