I'm quite sure it never has anything to do with interfering in the business of other lands. That could never possibly be the case, could it?

Nope, absolutely not. Never happen. I mean, c'mon, I never get irritated when my neighbors occupy my garage, let their pets befoul my yard, use my fence as target practice, I just get jealous and hate them for being better. And I certainly never have cause to get angry at them when they kick my ass so that they can drill for oil in my backyard either....nope, pure jealousy at their superiority.

I believe that these protesters should go back home and (let) the thousands of other people that signed up to defend not only this country, but our allies, do our work.

As a volunteer Marine, from 91-95, I love mu country and did and will again sacrifice for it and I remember my oath all to well...

''I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.''

Now, not to get to technical but I don't see how Somalia, Rwanda, Kuwait, Yugoslavia, etc. etc. etc. constitutes a thread to our Constitution.

Many of those U.S. troops are stationed abroad by invitation of their hosts. Kuwait, Korea, Kosovo, Bahrain, Afghanistan...all of these countries are arguably happy we came and happy we are staying.

But where does our government have the authority to place them there at "our" expense?? Are there threats to our Constitution in Rwanda??

Yah, I'm a "peacenick", armed to the teeth, volunteer Marine (can you say the same??)....

Please show the Constitutional justification for our occupation of all those countries. I don't care if they invited us, there is no "legal" justification.

The fact that I´m a European makes me MORE qualified to decide wether we´re envious or not. And we´re not envious, at least not of property or income. probably of military strength.

The Civil war is not comparable to WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, the wars in the Mid East.

We´re capable to build nukes, thank you. There´s just no need for it as long as France, Britain and the US guarantee to defend us with nukes when we need it.

Your statement was a bit exaggerated, I suppose. You wanted to joke about my post calling the US view of the world arrogant, so you talked to me with arrogance. I see...

Which we should not do...."entangeling alliances" and all that.

As a European, what kind of news do you get regarding the US?

The first question you have to ask, Do they have a valid reason? If not, who cares?

Problem solved...

Well, the poor man never admits to the rich man that he envies his wealth. I'll leave you with this thought: the vast majority of Europeans want to own their home - property values in Europe are very high for this reason. Yet about half as many Europeans own their own home as Americans do.

The Civil war is not comparable to WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, the wars in the Mid East.

A larger percentage of America's population died in the Civil War than that of Europe in either WWI or WWII. There were no neutral Swedens or Switzerlands in the Civil War either - every American community was touched by the horror of that war in some way. And an enormous amount of territory was devastated.

Additionally, America, unlike Europe, did not have a friendly ally across the sea who was willing to rebuild the whole country out of its own pocket for free. America had to rebuild by itself, from scratch.

The Civil War wasn't like WWI where the Italians could just give up after a few battles without dire consequences, or WWII where Hungary or France could just throw up their hands, surrender and wait.

Both sides fought until the bitter end.

We get news about your business, since economies and stock markets depend on each others. Ok.

But we also hear of the war plans (mostly a negotive tone, describing the war as unnecessary, refusing to give the UN a chance). If there´re positive news (from our view the decision of former Governr Ryan), we hear that, too.

The war is dominating, of course. We also get informed about incidents like the DC sniper or disasters like the problems with the cold and snow along the East Coast this winter. Elections are covered, too, and it was hard to understand that you system allows candidates to become president without the majority of the voters. Like your media, all the things we differ or disagree or what is different is covered, but all the things/ideals we share are less important.

Naturally, an argument is always more interesting than an agreement...

Kind regards,

Michael

"Because, with few exceptions, they SUCK!"

Great answer!! You just explained why most nations hate the US!! It´s your arrogance - and the way you think about different opinions...

You´re not tolerant anyway.

You Germans know all about arrogance and tolerance, don't you?

After all the experiences my ancestors made, I guess the answer to your question is yes. We´ll never feel superior to others anymore, I´m sure.

Most nations on this planets had horrible wars which affected many people

You Germans would also know a lot about that.

I figured the rest but I'll explain this..

and it was hard to understand that you system allows candidates to become president without the majority of the voters.

The system is set so that NewYork, LA, and other high density areas can't dictate policy based on sheer numbers..

We're not a national Democracy, we're a Republic made up of soveriegn states. It would be unfair for agricultural states to have to submit to laws designed to help cosmopolitan states. Another reason a lot of us fear the Fed is that it really shouldn't matter to localities who is president, he's not supposed to have the power to dictate local policy...

Also, your feigned ignorance of our Civil War, in which we lost more people than we did in World Wars I and II combined, is an insult.

Thanks, but because of 2000 elections, we all know now why your president hasn´t had the majority of the people but of the presidential electoral assembly. :-)
