WHY DO OTHER COUNTRIES HATE US?

Found this while pondering the question,why do other countries dislike us? Part of an ad in the Saturday Enening Post in 1914.

In every field of human endeavour, he that is first must perpetually live in the white light of publicity. Whether the leadership be vested in a man or a manufactured product,emulation and envy are ever at work. In art, in literature, in music, in industry the reward and the punishment are always the same. The reward is widespread recognition;the punishment, fierce denial and detraction. When a man's work becomes a standard for the whole world, it also becomes a target for the shafts of the envious few. If his work be merely mediocre, he will be left severely alone- if he acheive a masterpiece, it will set a million tongues a-wagging. Jealousy does not protrude it's forked tongue at the artist who produces a commomplace painting. Whatsoever you write,or paint, or sing, or build no one will strive to surpass, or to slander you unless your work be stamped with the seal of genius. Long, long after a great work or a good work has been done, those who are disappointed or envious continue to cry out that it can not be done. Spiteful little voices in the domain of art were raised against our own Whistler as a mountebank, long after the big world had acclaimed him it's greatest artistic genius. Multitudes flocked to Bayreuth to worship at the musical shrine of Wagner, while the little group of those whom he had dethroned and displaced argued angrily that he was no musician at all. The little world continued to protest that Fulton could never build a steamboat, while the big world flocked to the river banks to see his boat steam by. The leader is assailed because he is a leader and the effort to equal him is merely added proof of that leadership. Failing to equal or excel, the follower seeks to depricate and to destroy - but only confirms once more the superiority of that which he strives to supplant.

There is nothing new in this. It is as old as the world and as old as the human passions - envy, fear, greed, ambition, and the desire to surpass. And it all avails nothing. If the leader truly leads, he remains - the leader. Master poet, masterpainter, master workman each in his turn is assailed, and each holds his laurels through the ages. That which is good or great makes itself known, no matter how loud the clamor of denial That which deserves to live - lives.

Because they have seen other people leave to live in freedom and they feel stupid at staying home.

What is striking about this ad copy is the level of education that it presumes in the reader; truly, we have become a dumbed-down nation over the last century - the pinnacle of today's TV ads is: "tastes great - less filling." Morons are Us.

They're jealous. My grandparents came here with NOTHING from Italy. My mom also came here with practically nothing. She always heeard of this dreamland called America. America is the land of milk and honey. My mom always says this country is blessed. Even though she hates Rush Limbaugh and Dubya, she still says she would never go back home or move anywhere else.

Why do we accept this BS when everything else they try to inform US of is pure BS (see the NYuckTimes today making up some god awful story that President Bush is in trouble with US reps because he's too conservative (Hell that "IS" what brought US this past HISTORICAL election results))!~}

Because we spoil the world rotten. It is a sick fact about human nature that abuse often earns frightened respect - whereas doting earns contempt. Nobody generally kidnapped or effed with the Russians , because they'd find out who the perpetrators' family was and send body parts of family members back through channels - until they got their people back.

And I had a chance to see a less vile form of this phenomena when I lived in Hong Kong when it was under British rule. The Brits milked Hong Kong dry. They used the island and its people to enrich Britain - and hung them out to dry when the Chicoms came (HK passports were not honored as British, as was promised). But flying back from HK thru Guam - I saw nothing but attitude among the islanders, who are honored with tons of US government largesse - in the form of USDA surplus, government jobs, free this, free that, etc.

Anybody who's raised a kid thru early adulthood knows exactly what this is all about.

My prescription for the world? Benign neglect. Ef'em. Even if the world's bullies decimate them. Let the sick joke that is the UN handle it. They'd learn...fast.

Sarcasm noted. I guess it depends on what context "interfering" is taken. I guess you really would need to throw out some examples of what you mean by "interfering". I'd have to strongly disagree with you at this point.

Actually, they hate Israel because they are successful like the US.
Having that kind of prosperity in a country with comparatively little natural resources in the middle of all the oil-rich islamic shthole nations is just another thumb in the eye of their midieval islamic culture.

Do you mean "interfering" like flying airplanes into their building full of innocent people, or "interfering" like giving them billions of dollars in aid which will never be repaid, or "interfering" like protecting/rescuing them from tyrrany repeatedly over the past century?
