He arbitrarily assigned tones of the eight-note, do-re-mi scale to each letter. Thymine became re, for instance. Guanine is so, adenine la and cytosine do.

Before I could pass judgement on this, I'd have to know what it would sound like if a computer were to just give random patterns of do, re, fa, and so. Then I'd like to give people the Pepsi challenge with it.

It's shooting fish in a barrel. Regardless of which note is percieved as the tonic, you'll get some "new agey" melodies.
