ALBANY - Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter was secretly prosecuted in Albany County in 2001 after he was snared in an Internet sex sting operation, law enforcement sources told the Daily News.Ritter, who lives in the Albany suburb of Delmar, is now a high-profile critic of President Bush's war preparations.
He was arrested by Colonie Police in June 2001 on a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly had a sexual discussion on the Internet with an undercover investigator he thought was an underage girl, law enforcement sources disclosed on condition of anonymity.
The case was sealed, and Colonie officials declined to release the arrest records, explaining the matter was adjourned in local court in contemplation of dismissal.
The Schenectady Daily Gazette reported yesterday that Albany District Attorney Paul Clyne fired veteran Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Preiser last week for failing to inform him of the case against Ritter.
Clyne said that as a "sensitive" case, it should have been brought to his attention.
Ritter, who has made frequent appearances on network television after speaking to the Iraq National Assembly last year, could not be reached for comment.

The funding came from am American citizen of Iraqi background and was very anti-Saddam.
I have spoken with Scott several times and people here who argue that he is some kind of traitor are completely insane. He is as patriotic and pro-American as they come. He is a hardcore Republican and doesn't have a leftist bone in his body. People just hate and slander him because he doesn't think we should invade Iraq. That betrays their real agenda: they will even attack a fellow conservative in their mad rush to war. They don't love this country. It is they who are the real traitors...
You call someone mentally ill just because he disagrees with your political perspective. Perhaps you think all those who disagree with you should be put in psychiatric prisons? You people are Stalinists of the first degree.
Perhaps because none of you "conservatives" will even give him the time of day or even consider that his vast experience makes him eminently more qualified than the likes of you to judge the situation in Iraq...
No.
Well, that's interesting. Then what you are saying is what I thought - that solicitation to murder would be a CONTRACT - whether payment is now or later.
Not mere trying to convince.
Yeah, right.
BWAHAHAHAHA! Best laugh I've had all day.
Say, how does Scott earn his money? Does he have a job? Does his wife support him? Who paid for his trips to Iraq last year?
If Saddam doesn't have WMD, or isn't funding and supporting US enemies, then what is the 'real' reason we are attacking him?
Do your own homework. If you seek knowledge you will find it. If you want to run with the brain-dead crowd, no amount of empirical data in the world will convince you, as is evident from all these threads.
"Do your own homework. If you seek knowledge you will find it."
Well, I don't need any homework. The standard answer is oil, which is what I expect you to respond with. But if you want to convince me that I'm wrong, I expect some sort of data with which to make up my mind. I can be extremely critical of my government when I believe they are wrong. I am no sheep.
My belief, is that Saddam, North Korea, and China, while we're at it, are threats to the existance and prosperity of the US, and probably should be eliminated or demilitarized. In fact, I see Islam as a major threat, and pretty much always have - before 9/11. Religious zealots are incompatible with freedom.
Oddly, Russia has pretty much the same enemies. You have militant Islam attacking you constantly. And you have Chinese invading your country by flooding over a border larger than ours with Mexico.
I'm still trying to figure out why Russia and the US aren't dividing the Middle East, the resources and cooperating on driving back the barbarians.
If a city has to be lost, I'd prefer that it is Mecca and not New York or Moscow. Peace is nice. Killing all of your enemies so that you can enjoy peace is much nicer.
You are incorrect.
Killing all of your enemies so that you can enjoy peace is much nicer.
You can never kill all your enemies. Only a fool would presume so. I have no time to speak with fools.
I had "alledgedly" in a few of my responses...... too good to be true. I'll warn ya now that I'm not gonna fall for all the stories about the clintoons being fake !!
Stay Safe , Thanks !
