ALBANY - Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter was secretly prosecuted in Albany County in 2001 after he was snared in an Internet sex sting operation, law enforcement sources told the Daily News.Ritter, who lives in the Albany suburb of Delmar, is now a high-profile critic of President Bush's war preparations.
He was arrested by Colonie Police in June 2001 on a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly had a sexual discussion on the Internet with an undercover investigator he thought was an underage girl, law enforcement sources disclosed on condition of anonymity.
The case was sealed, and Colonie officials declined to release the arrest records, explaining the matter was adjourned in local court in contemplation of dismissal.
The Schenectady Daily Gazette reported yesterday that Albany District Attorney Paul Clyne fired veteran Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Preiser last week for failing to inform him of the case against Ritter.
Clyne said that as a "sensitive" case, it should have been brought to his attention.
Ritter, who has made frequent appearances on network television after speaking to the Iraq National Assembly last year, could not be reached for comment.

Could this be the bit of info Saddem has on Ritter?? .. video tape maybe?
Who is to say he was setup at all? Perhaps just another run of the mill pedophile in making caught in a sting.
If that's the case and it seems the most likely to me then the question is who was involved in keepitng it quiet.
As for who is leaking the story now, I can only say that I am sorry it isn't me. Any troll surfing for children deserves all the public recognition he can get.
But if your asking could it be political payback from the right, absolutely.
Sounds like another Lee Harvey Oswald to me.
I saw .. she is such a nit wit
Perhaps he wasn't "set up" but was simply caught engaging in this disgusting behavior.
Yeah, like the way he needed Afghanistan's oil so badly he engineered the 9/11 atrocities on the WTC and pentagon, then framed bin Laden for it.

Like it or not, the most likely scenario is that the ADA was fired as a case of rear-end coverage by her superior once he discovered the person charged in the case is a media talking head.
The bar association is not likely to do much to the fired ADA. They'll close ranks because lawyers stick together. The DA is more likely to clam up to any investigators than he is to OPEN up. She'll emerge in another state and continue to practice law. Same thing goes for judges investigated by Judicial Advisory and Review boards.
The only conspiracy that I can see in this case is the usual: lawyers conspiring to close ranks and protect one another, because no lawyer can afford to have another forming a vandetta against him for NOT closing ranks.
Yes, I'm speaking from experience.
I will now log off and relax...and enjoy the idea of Scott having a REASON to be squirmy and wormy.
[In September 1998, Ritter testified to the Senate's Foreign Relations and Armed Services subcommittees.] Senator Biden, in his haste to defend the Clinton administration's inaction in the face of a gathering danger even then, scolded Ritter in the most insulting and demeaning terms. Addressing him as "Scotty-boy," he mocked Ritter's criticism of administration officials. These men, Biden told Ritter, "have responsibilities above your pay grade-[sneeringly] slightly above your pay grade--to decide whether or not to take the nation to war alone or to take the nation to war part-way, or to take the nation to war half-way. That's a real tough decision. That's why they get paid the big bucks. That's why they get the limos and you don't."The masters of blackmail only succeed when abetted by many silent wall-flowers. Every man or woman who keeps their mouth shut -- for whatever reason -- abets terrorism. The little bits count. Have courage.
I wonder how he met his wife, exactly...
That's what I'm thinking, too.
This coverup stinks to high heaven. Somebody is out there right now covering tracks. I think there is a frenzied battle going on beneath the surface.
Meantime, I'll be keeping an eye peeled for strange deaths and "suicides".
LOL! Thanks for the chuckle!
