France moves to pay for mosques to curb terrorism
Hindustan Times ^ | Saturday, January 18, 2003 | Vijay Dutt

Terrorism has made France consider changing one of its fundamental principles of keeping state and religion separate and accept the proposal for the state to fund the building of mosques in the country.

So far the state is not allowed to build places of worship under a 1905 law. President Jacques Chirac recently welcomed leaders of the new nationally elected Muslim Council to reportedly put the suggestion of state funding.

Mr. Chirac told them that in the past he regretted there was no organised dialogue between Muslim representatives and French authorities. He said he hoped the Islam of France and the Muslims of France would achieve the same status-- with equal rights and duties--as all other citizens.

This move is viewed as a bold scheme to create a French version of Islam so as to prevent the country's second biggest religion from falling into the sway of foreign powers, notably Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh has helped the construction of many mosques all over the world, including the golden-dome mosque in Regent Park in London. It’s the biggest mosque in Britain.

A spokesman has been quoted, " One cannot be opposed to the foreign financing of places of worship and at the same time do nothing about it." The minister for property and building law explained, " In 1905, the government thought that Catholics were anti-republican and constituted a menace.

" Today, it is Islam which poses this question. It would be unrealistic not to respond to this concern." The police have been keeping an eye on mosques fearing they might provide cover and shelter to terrorists.

At present there are 1600 mosques in France, much less than in the United Kingdom. Most of these mosques are little more than a room. But money from Saudi Arabia and some other Gulf countries have been pouring in for building Islamic centres and mosques. The Grand Mosque in Lyons cost £3 million, most of that money came from Saudi Arabia.

Agreed. I'm stunned speechless at the stupidity exhibited here. And I expect stupidity from the French, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

France really needs a latter-day Charles Martel.

"Terrorism has made France consider changing one of its fundamental principles of keeping state and religion separate[snip]"

I guess the seperation of church and state onllly works with the Christian sects.

So now we have Saudi-France the first Islamic republic in Eurostan.

"And I expect stupidity from the French"

The going joke was the French were sending 10,000 troops to Iraq -- they would go in first and try to surrender to the Iraqis -- the Iraqis would insist on surrendering first -- but the French would demand to surrender first -- and it would tie up the country so badly we could just walk in and take over.

Now they are just surrendering in their own country.

Why not just convert the Notre Dame and the Cathedral at Rhiems and a few other old antiquated buildings into mosques--and save yourselves the trouble? It's going to happen anyway. Might as well make it sooner as later, n'est pas?

What seemed almost impossible to me is not only possible, but appears to be approaching rapidly. Horrible, inexorable, and oh, so... "European."

"Horrible, inexorable, and oh, so... "European."

Well, it could be a Marxist thing. One of our local school districts here in Northern California made 7th graders dress up in Muslim garb and say prayers out of the Koran. These lefties love the whole Muslim thing.

I have seen a few American blond blue-eyed young women in my neighborhood dressed in burkas at the store and I assume they have married into the faith. They're present day leftist martyrs.

When I think of France, I think progressive. I salute the French. Nowadays they don't even wait for an end run on the Maginoet Line, they capitulate at the hint of trouble. Welcome to the belly up state, Moslems.

RE: Christians "Or are they too cowardly to speak up??"

White liberal guilt is the main religion in Eurostan today. I think they suffer so much from colonial retrograde angst that they cannot over come it with reason.

I do wonder how many Christians are in France and as you point out what are they doing?

"These lefties love the whole Muslim thing."

You're right, of course, BeAll.

In the first place, rank and file lefties (most of them) hunger for absolutes, especially moral absolutes. Most of them are followers, just sitting ducks for a murderous/suicidal koolade number. You can tell them by they way they parrot the party-lines so automatically. They can't think for themselves, and they hunger for somebody--anybody--to tell them what to do.

In the second place, lefty leaders tend to be sociopathic control-freaks, who herd the koolade-fools and tell them what to think.

All in all, the taliban is made to order for them all.

Lefties will love Islam, especially the taliban. As it is now, the rhetoric is the only difference between "Liberalism" and Islam. They're gonna love it.
