MODESTO, Calif. (AP) - The husband of a missing pregnant woman may have lied about his relationship with a girlfriend and possibly other things, a spokeswoman for the family said Friday.
Kim Petersen, a spokeswoman for relatives of Laci Peterson, 27, of Modesto, said police have shown the family recent photographs of Scott Peterson with a girlfriend. The husband had previously denied such a relationship, the family said.
"Now, however, they believe he has lied to them about this, and possibly other things as well," Petersen said.
"Approximately two weeks ago, Ron Grantski, Laci's stepfather, asked Scott if he had a girlfriend. Scott told him no and Ron believed him," Petersen said.
"The family is asking him to tell everything he knows and to fully cooperate with the Modesto Police Department," Petersen said. "Their family is the most important thing to them and if Scott has nothing to hide, they ask him to prove that."
Laci Peterson was reported missing on Christmas Eve. She is due to deliver a baby boy on Feb. 10. Her husband told investigators he went fishing at the Berkeley Marina on Christmas Eve morning.
Police did not indicate to the family if investigators believed Scott Peterson was responsible for his wife's disappearance, according to Petersen.
"The family knows that the police are doing their job," Petersen said. "They don't want to do anything that can hurt their chances of finding Laci."
Petersen, executive director of the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation, which is sponsoring a reward for Laci Peterson's safe return, said the Modesto center closed Thursday.
Volunteers also canceled plans to open a one-day center in Los Angeles on Sunday.
"Although Laci has not been located yet, our search effort will not stop," said Brad Saltzman, general manager of the Red Lion Hotel in Modesto, who had been organizing the volunteer centers. "We will continue to search for Laci and her baby boy."
Police have repeatedly said Scott Peterson is not a suspect but has been less than cooperative.

I am kinda glad that I am not the Scot Peterson in the left photo, chances are pretty good he may not see the humor in having a few personal details including a photo thrown around an international forum on the WWW in reference to his possibly being guilty of killing his pregnant wife.I think this Scott Peterson;

Will be pleased that since his picture was posted along side the other Scott Peterson, no one will be going around wondering if it was him. ;-)
See no one thinks he is that Scott Peterson now.
1.I don't think so,the one on the left has blue or green eyes and the murderer on the right has brown eyes.
2. not same person. guy on left blue eyes. SP black eyes.
3.Thanks for posting them side by side. Now I see that there really is not much of a resemblance. SP (on the right) appears to have dark brown eyes, and the other SP has blue eyes. :)
4.Nah, that ain't Scottykins, imho.

I just came onto the thread and am WAY behind but this one post cought my eye
The witness that saw YOU driving her lifeless body toward south of Modesto, with your boat hitched on back.
This is something only a family member would know, I can say that the witness was a trucker who travled Hwy 99 weekly. When you drive the same route on a daily basis and at the same time you see other vehicles that you know.
There was a confrontation on the HiWay between the trucker and vehicle pulling the boat w/trailor. The Trucker pulled up along side of SP (remember he knew the vehicle from past trips on this highway) peering into the vehicle trying to make eye contact to let him know he didn"t appreciate his driving abilitys, he noticed a young female in the passenger seat, according to the witness she was slumped over with her hair in her face. All the times prior to seeing this vehicle the trucker said he never observed a passenger.

Are you theorizing or did you hear/read new information somewhere?

Thankyou for your post. I just bet Scott was the type to run people off the road. He hits me as the type that just has to get ahead of everyone else. I hope this information, helps lead LE to Laci.

according to the witness she was slumped over with her hair in her face That doesn't sound like speculation to me. That would have to be a witness who saw them. I'm confused!

How do you know about this? I guess you will have to trust me on this.
The incident is being checked out but the trucker is confident it was the same vehicle.

I don't think insurance law can be that boring. (I'm thinking of my torts class) I enjoyed learning about real property law and wills, trust and probate if you can believe it! Criminal law courses are the most interesting. We had a lot of cops in our classes.
One thing would be that if a civil suit was brought first, it would save the state a lot of money..because of the evidence and discovery right?
What is the statutes of limitations? I can only imagine how long the family of the victim would have to grieve first. It seems like being a spectator in the criminal trial would would give the family a buffer, and preparation for the civil trial. (If I recall correctly, there is no statute of limitations on murder trials)

Are you a police officer? This sounds like inside info:-)

Now this is more than interesting. Do you know where or WHEN he saw this? Maybe SP was a tad bit distracted in his driving by the frantic thoughts of where he was going to hide his wife's body.

I don't think I understand this correctly. Are you theorizing or did you hear/read new information somewhere? No theorizing here, just trying to give everyone a heads up on the facts. This is just one of lots of witnesses that their stories are being checked out.
One poster was right, the trucker said SP cut him off.

The incident is being checked out but the trucker is confident it was the same vehicle.it would be kind of hard to miss that bright green butt ugly toolbox in the bed of his truck. Not too many of those around!

Would it cost the victim's family more money if they were able to file the suit first?

scott had his dead wifes body in the front seat perhaps? why would he not have wrapped her up in the tarp? driving to his planned burial place? or perhaps she was not dead yet and was trying to figure out what to do?
To: jdontom
Does the trucker remember what the female looked like? Brunette? Pregnant? How far south on the 99? Did he see him turn off somewhere?
Now I'm wondering what lakes and waterways are that direction. Don Pedro? It couldn't be too far because he'd have to get back to Berkeley in time to get the receipt.
