Protesters Worldwide Gathering to Rally for Nonviolent End to Iraq Conflict

TOKYO (AP) - Protesters turned out Friday in Bahrain and the Gaza Strip to rally against a possible war against Iraq, while demonstrators planned to take to the streets in several European cities.
Protests on Saturday in Brussels and the German cities of Hamburg and Cologne were to coincide with similar demonstrations across the United States.
German demonstrators also planned to gather in front of the European headquarters of the U.S. Army in Heidelberg.
The demonstrations come as Saddam proclaimed Friday Iraq is ready for war with the United States. His words added to an atmosphere of urgency that followed the discovery of 12 empty chemical warheads in Iraq.
U.N. weapons inspectors were trying to determine if the discovery represented a violation of U.N. resolutions, a possible trigger for war.
Meanwhile, 3,500 Palestinians marched Friday in support of Saddam in Gaza City, filling the narrow streets with fluttering Iraqi flags and pictures of the Iraqi leader. Some chanted, "Our beloved Saddam, strike Tel Aviv," reviving a slogan from the 1991 Gulf War.
"The Palestinian people and Iraqi people are in the same trench of resistance against the aggression and against injustice," said Abdel Aziz Rantisi, a Hamas leader.
In the Bahraini capital of Manama, more than 1,500 citizens waving placards and banners marched saying "No!" to war with Iraq and calling on their pro-Western leadership to expel U.S. forces from the kingdom.
The small Persian Gulf state is home to the U.S. 5th fleet and hosts about 1,000 U.S. military personnel who would be among the forces used in any American-led attack on Iraq.
Around 100 anti-war campaigners held a public meeting to mark the 12th anniversary of the U.S. airstrikes that began the 1991 Gulf War.
The organizers of the gathering, lobby group Voices in the Wilderness, said that war on Iraq would be illegal, immoral and counter productive.
"It is illegal because under current circumstances there is no U.N. mandate for war. It is immoral because hundreds and thousands of innocent people will die," said group spokesman Gabriel Carlyle. "It is counter productive because it's only going to make the problems of terrorism worse."

Protesters turned out Friday in Bahrain /snip
Didn't see a single Bahraini flag in the TV shot tonight. But I did see Palestine and HAMAS flags. Another fine protest, brought to you by our sponser:
This is similar to the situation in Israel, where a non-vionlent end to the "crisis" can be achieved if Arafat stops supporting terrorists.
And this is similar to the situation in many countries, where a non-violent end to any upcoming "crisis" can be achieved if their governments and societies stop supporting terrorists.
Regarding relations with the West, it's simple: behave in a civilized manner and we can get along, and there will be no violent exchanges. Export violence, and you will reap the full measure of violent response that you deserve.
Leftists: please take note.
Well, at least they didn't protest against Al Qaeda, Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah, PFLP/Black September, and Cuban terrorism. I mean, what would Leftists do if their own kind were being protested...
That slogan "Saddam, strike Tel Aviv" sounded particularly non-violent, too.

Oh that's rich!
This is possibly the most moronic thing I've ever read on FR. Immoral, huh? Voices in the Wilderness; where do these pansy group come from? San Francisco, Berekely, the People's Republic of Madison, WI? Just think, we actually have to share the freedoms of this great country with these anti-"Americans." Makes me sick!
Is their "battle cry" (I use that term very lightly) to sing Kumbaya and while hugging a tree?
I wonder if this group can explain the age old question: that if a tree falls in forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound? These fascists should be offically declared illegal, immoral and counter productive. IDIOTS!!!!!!!
No... The real question is: If a logger falls a tree, in the forest, on a left-wing liberal, should anyone bother to call an ambulance?
Interesting point.
Very astute observation.
I was watching a program here on local German television on propganda and the Nazis. It was chilling, but also fascinating. The rhetoric that was used was almost identicle to some you hear today.
Joseph Gobells speeches are on line--and they are an incredible read. He peppered his propaganda with all the garbage you hear from Liberals and modern day Fascists today:
- Victimization
- Distortions
- Countless calls for PEACE, SECURITY, and NEGOTIATION!
- False indignation
- Class Warfare
- Need for Gun Control to Curb Crime
- Scape goating enemies while minimizing real problems
- Faux concern for areas like: women's rights, the environment, and jobs
I watched Leni Reifenstahl's "Triumph of the Will".
If any of you have not seen this 1934 master of propaganda, I urge you to find it and rent it. Even Frank Capra marveled at her film genuious and remarked to the US Army when asked to make his film in 1942 "Why We Fight" exclaimed--"I cannot top that film."
Watching it, I discovered that the Clinton film The Man from Hope stole many of the techniques used by this film to make a man appear to be something he was not.
The most chilling line of the film was this from Hitler;
"People think that the State orders us! No! We order the State!"
Sure.....
Don't forget, NY remains a leftist city. Those patriotic "cops and firemen" all live out in the hinterlands and not in the city itself (with the exception of quasi-suburban Staten Island).
