LACI PETERSON UPDATE- 1-14-03
Fox News- On The Record | 1-14-03 | Greta Van Sustern

Posted on 01/15/2003 1:12:22 AM PST by DWar

Van Sustren interviewed 20 year Berkley Bay fisherman Craig Stone. Stone said that nothing about what Scott Peterson did on the fishing trip to Berkley Bay seemed out of the ordinary to him from a fishing viewpoint. The bait was appropriate and available. The sturgeon were available. The boat size was not unusual. The optimal fishing area was not far off shore. The fish are prized but not easily caught. The time of day peterson was fishing was appropriate. It all seemed plausable to him.

And many men have been convicted of first degree murder even when the body is never found. Like Thomas Capano, who killed his girlfriend and dumped her in the Atlantic Ocean from a boat; and Dr. Bob Beirenbaum, who killed his wife and dropped her into the Atlantic from his private plane.

There was a case here in Philly were the wife was missing for such a long time .. he was a construction worker .. turns out he buried her in concrete on a construction site he was working at ..

Yeah, Queen, I just mentioned Capano above. He made a fatal error--he didn't go "fishing" alone. He brought along an eyewitness--his brother, who cracked and spilled his guts to the cops.

I wonder if Scott Peterson is a true crime buff, and has learned some lessons from the mistakes of guys like Capano.

He was also accompanied by his brother when he dumped the body.

And, oif I remember correctly, the brother testified against him ... saying he saw the cooler with a foot hanging out of it and chained.

They also shot the cooler hoping it would sink .. I think the cops got the brother on a drug charge or something and then the brother crack and spilled the beans

I wonder about all murders. They ALL seem to make really obvious mistakes. Why? If Scott killed his wife, was it a mistake? Did they argue? Maybe about a girlfriend? And I'd love to know if any other family member knew in advance of his fishing trip.

Plastic surgeon guilty of killing his wife in 1985

The Associated Press

NEW YORK - A plastic surgeon accused of killing his wife 15 years ago and dropping her body into the ocean from an airplane was convicted of murder yesterday.

Robert Bierenbaum, 44, faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on Nov. 20.

His wife, Gail Katz-Bierenbaum, 29, vanished in 1985. Her body was never found and the prosecution's case was mostly circumstantial.

Prosecutor Daniel Bibb said Bierenbaum probably strangled his wife in their Upper East Side apartment after she told him she was leaving their sometimes violent marriage for another man.

He said Bierenbaum put his wife's corpse in a duffle bag, drove it to a New Jersey airport, took the body up in a small plane and dropped it into the ocean off New Jersey or Long Island.

David Lewis, Bierenbaum's lawyer, denounced the prosecution's case as guesswork since there were no eyewitnesses or physical evidence.

Over the years, Bierenbaum gave various explanations for his wife's disappearance, saying that she was a waitress in California, that she was suicidal and may have killed herself or that she had run off with another man.

Bierenbaum, who has a pilot's licence, spent nearly two hours flying the afternoon after his wife was last seen. It was after prosecutors found his flight log, which the law requires pilots to maintain, they believed they could make a murder case against him.

The victim's sister, Alayne Katz of Irvington, N.Y., said: "I've waited a very, very long time for this day.

"I heard the cuffs close round his hands. I've waited for that sound a long time."

I suspect Scott is too busy traveling, sampling trendy Los Angeles restaurants with his girlfriends, and keeping up appearances to have time to be a true crime buff.

However, given his profession and hobbies he may have some naturally good ideas as to how to conceal a body.

At the very start of this, someone was saying that Scott was a HUGE Soprano's fan, that he would host parties at his home to watch the show.

Scott should have seen how Tony disposed of a certain body "overboard". Tony used chains for weight.

It was one of their best shows.

That's very interesting. I am a crime buff and remember lots of stories ... and I remember that many, many years after the crime the husband was popped. But not before he married a very pretty wife. I'm lgad you reminded me of this crime ...

It's interesting that you mention the Robert Bierenbaum case. I am from Los Angeles. This monster lived in the area. I had a friend of a friend type situation where "the friend" went out with this Doctor and just had a creepy feeling about him. She did not know about his wife at the time. She found out later before he was finally convicted.
