Grijalva invites Ashcroft to see vigilante 'justice'
ARIZONA DAILY STAR; Tuesday, January 14, 2003
U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva stepped up his campaign to crack down on vigilantes Monday by inviting Attorney General John Ashcroft to come to Southern Arizona to see the threat they pose to border security.
The Tucson Democrat told Ashcroft in a letter that the federal government's silence on the issue is "seen as giving official sanction to this racist movement, both by the perpetrators and victims of vigilante 'justice.' "
Ashcroft's voice, Grijalva added, "is needed now to make clear that private armed groups claiming law enforcement powers have no role in patrolling our border with Mexico."
Last week, shortly after he was sworn in, Grijalva called for a federal inquiry into the vigilante groups that have formed in response to the thousands of illegal immigrants who make their way across Arizona's border every year.
Oh, so because it has been pasted 11 times on a website, that makes it more signficant? Lott only uttered his comments once - it is the words that matter, not the count.
have Tancredo make his run on immigration. Bring it on - let's test how big this issure REALLY is among Republican voters. What are you afraid of? You'll lose?
Nice try at changing the subject. The subject is the lack of will by government at all levels to enforce existing immigration law, in defiance of laws that the federal government has passed - and this issue is resonating with an increasing number of voters. But trying to therefore turn it into a single-issue campaign is a demand that it turn down the path of futility, as single-issue campaigns seldom if ever work. So we'll acknowledge the strawman that you and BlackElk have erected as we drive right on by it.
The SPLC has pulled back when they have made mistakes
So has the NY Times - of course, only when they are absolutely pinned down or the retraction is insignificant. So just because the SPLC has retracted once, doesn't mean it is so inclined on a regular basis. You're defending one of the most liberal, obnoxious, progagandist organizations out there, dude. SPLC is a pretty hard sell here at FR, and so far your sales pitch isn't anywhere near up to the task.
Whiiiiiine ... I'm bringing in some of the folks who were participants on an earlier thread where I raised these issues, and they can provide input regarding SPLC. I doubt most of the folks you just pinged in will support your contentions regarding SPLC, you might try getting some folks from DU to join long enough to post an SPLC testimonial before they get banned. Once again, the issue is illegal immigration and, now that you've raised it, a quote by Glenn Spencer regarding problems with culture in Mexico as they pertain to assimilation here.

You're the one defending a biased liberal group on a conservative website. I went through this exercise already when I was simply trying to confirm the charges of SPLC (as opposed to actively promoting them as you are here), but there are plenty of folks here who are much better informed on the subject, and I'm sure they will be glad to shoot down your position here. Just sit back and the fireworks will start soon enough.
Exhibit A - SPLC claimed that American Patrol had a cartoon deriding Mexicans on their website. No such cartoon ever existed.
Once again, what I said about black inner-city culture was little different from what Glenn Spencer said about Mexican culture (that is, the culture in the country of Mexico, especially the political culture, which is notoriously corrupt). Care to call me a bigot, dude? Oh, and BTW, the burden is on YOU to substantiate what SPLC has claimed, because otherwise you put me in the position of proving a negative - that none of these statements by Glenn Spencer exist - because Google searches only find what exists, not what doesn't. You have posted ONE comment that is actually a fairly factual statement of how things work in Mexico. Now, search the rest of their claims. And post your proof.
As a plus we would acquire as soverign US terrirotry some of the most beautiful beaches on earth.
Like hell it was an analogy. It was a factual statement little different from what Glenn Spencer is saying. You ain't gonna rationalize this one. I stand by the statement I made, because it is supported by facts. But some folks like Jesse Jackson would call me a bigot for citing the truth, just as you are calling Glenn Spencer a bigot for citing a truth you and Morris Dees don't like...
Don't ask me to do your homework, son. You are claiming that SPLC is accurate regarding Glenn Spencer, you therefore should put up their claims and any supporting info you have. I'm not in the business of proving negatives...
I'll take your statement there as an admission that you know nothing about logic. Once again, SPLC has made specific claims. You say you agree with them. If those claims are correct, you can find supporting info with Google. Now, if those items claimed by SPLC do not exist, exactly how do you propose that I locate non-existent items with Google? This should be interesting.
Why are you so afraid to post the claims by SPLC? You want me to do your homework for you, and then prove a negative? Another poster with knowledge of the situation provided information a couple of months ago about the cartoon in question, otherwise I would never have known - oh, and BTW, YOU were on that thread, you freepmailed me several times regarding it - but you're playing dumb here. Since that is the game you are trying to play here, I'll go do something more worthwhile, like clean my coffee mug, as you are demonstrating that you're a complete waste of time.
