SEATTLE, Jan. 13 (AScribe Newswire) -- In its 4.5 billion years, Earth has evolved from its hot, violent birth to the celebrated watery blue planet that stands out in pictures from space. But in a new book, two noted University of Washington astrobiologists say the planet already has begun the long process of devolving into a burned-out cinder, eventually to be swallowed by the sun.

Well, there goes Des Moines. Since the Earth's core is a heavy molten liquid and it's crust quite thin, it would seem that the even slightest push would slosh the liquid right through the crust all over thr surface of the globe.

It's kind of an awe-inspiring thought that, after the stuff of our bodies is recycled literally thousands of times by organisms not yet born, it will end its existence as interstellar gas. I just had one of those "telescoping" moments...

That would simply not work. We may figure out how to learn how to move through space-time in a fashion simular to how a warp engine in Star Trek does it. But a gravity well as large as Earth would not be moved cheaply or easily. Not to mention how badly damaged and frozen it would b for eons before it could reach another system.

They slowing it down, and fitting it into the right zone in the new star's orbit in a balance with other planets is equally as problematic.

It is far better to move life to another ball of rock in another solar system. Even if you had to do it on a ship so slow it takes generations of humans to do so.

So if the earth is guaranteed to die, we should assume that all species currently inhabiting this planet are guaranteed to eventually become extinct. Unless of course one of the species develops enough wisdom and technological advances to be able to eventually leave the solar system. My money is on the hairless apes.

Since it's all doomed anyway, why bother? Drive like hell in your SUV, enjoy it while you can. Then we can move on to another planet somewhere, where we can drive like hell in our (anti-matter powered) SUVs. In fact anti-matter powered SUVs would be kinda nice to have even on the "only one world" we have now. Maybe in 50 years or so, we'll have them.

Last I heard, the sun won't get that chance. At this moment, we're in a relatively clear arm of our galaxy. But not only is our solar system rotating, every other system is too. In 50,000 years, we will have rotated into areas of "heavy traffic", plenty of stars and large objects. We may collide with something big before something big hits us. I wonder what liberals will think of to tax the whole event.

Interesting to see they're as wrong about the beginning of the earth as they are about its end. It was much more likely a process of accretion than condensation.
