Terrorist Squads Set Up Across Europe to Carry Random Killings Using Exotic Poisons
Independent ^ | 12 January 2003 | Paul Lashmar

Security services fear a network of terrorist assassination squads has been set up across Europe to carry out random killings using exotic poisons. The method is designed to maximise panic and fear.

European intelligence sources have told The Independent on Sunday they are "extremely concerned" that a number of North African terror cells linked to al-Qa'ida are active in London and other European cities and plotting attacks.

It is unclear if they would attempt a high-profile "spectacular" target such as Tony Blair, or randomly kill members of the public in busy areas to create "mayhem".

But security experts believe an attack on Britain at the earliest opportunity is seen as necessary to give al-Qa'ida a psychological boost.

The revelations follow the arrest last week of six North African men and a woman after a makeshift laboratory producing the poison ricin was discovered in a north London flat by Anti-Terrorist Branch officers. The seven are believed to be Algerian.

Four North Africans, all men, were charged yesterday with terrorism offences relating to the production of chemical weapons.

"The evidence suggests an assassination plot in London," said a well-placed security source about the arrests. "It is hard to see what else you would make and use ricin for."

Two other Algerian men who may also have ricin continue to be sought by police.

This is all the result of lax immigration policies.

It would work for a while here is the USA, too: just witness the fear and chaos caused by two weeks of a so-called "sniper" here in Washington DC. The cops would have to go back to stopping all white vans again............

I've never messed around with ricin but my understanding is that a lot of that stuff is equivalent to your making a big batch of mercury fulminate - you are more likely to injure/kill yourself in the process of making/storing it than you are to actually end up with a large amount of the finished product.

There's no need to commit acts of terrorism in Europe.
The situation there is an Islamist immigrationist's
paradise.

That being said, the threat of attacks in Europe can serve a useful purpose: diversion.

Why would they hit Europe? To keep them split with America in the war on Iraq. Still, all in all I say the Al Qaeda types view Europe as being more valuable as a base of operations against the USA and Israel than to terrorize. After all Muslim demographics and infiltration (immigration) of Europe is going quite well. Why mess up a good thing?
UK would be their favorite target since UK is closest to us and is joining our war on Iraq.

Europe may get little terrorist reminders which way to lean while the Jihadists plan larger/catastrophic terror for the USA and Israel.

Now that's REAL multicultural diversity!

It's not like Muslims are behaving any differently than they have for the last 1,300 years, so why are the Europeans surprised? Did they think that petrodollars would make them civilized?

It's probably also an easier place to 'practice' in advance of hitting the US.

Yes it is, because of a socialist mantra called "diversity".

Why would they hit Europe?
----

Because the Europeans have shown to be easily intimidated and blackmailed.

BTW -- here is another article discussing the potential random poisonings, with a few interesting opinions:
From the News Zealand Herald:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3051056&thesection=news&thesubsection=world

"But security experts believe an early attack on Britain is seen as necessary to give al Qaeda a psychological boost."

Dr Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism expert from St Andrews University, Fife, Scotland, has predicted that terrorists are likely to resort to assassination. "Ricin is a weapon of mass disruption, not destruction. It targets the economy and preys on people's psychological fears of these unknown, exotic weapons." But Ranstorp does not believe the target would be a major political figure. "Why would anyone go to the trouble of attacking someone like [Prime Minister] Tony Blair, when a random attack anywhere would sow the seeds of mayhem and destruction to almost the same effect?"

A former intelligence officer agrees: "While terrorists might like to assassinate Blair ... they know that even if a handful of shoppers at Wood Green were fatally poisoned, it would create a lot of fear in the public."

Sorry, I missed that you posted only part of the article and what I found in the New Zealand Herald WAS contained in the UK article you posted.
I realized after I posted my post.

I disagree.
The objective is to foment a world wide war between the west and Islam.
This would be the objective of the real backers of these groups, the Chinese.
It would enable them to invade Taiwan, S. Korea and ultimately Japan.

We can try to stop terrorist by building huge walls around our borders, but I think we will lose much more in freedom than we will gain in safty.

I prefer the Bush method...strong retaliation for organizations and nations that refuse to keep terrorism in check.

Admittedly we can only retailiate after an attack, but if we strengthen the borders with military and barriers the same people who whine in Orwellian overtones about losing the freedom to carry toenail clippers on airplanes will complain about the loss of their freedom to travel at will.

Britain doesn't seem a likely target, since the public is there is more conditioned to ignore terrorist attacks, given their long experience with the IRA.
