People leave the country in droves because it's poor and they can't feed they're family.

Most of the people in Mexico may be poor, but the country of Mexico is not poor.

No the country of Mexico is poor. There are a lot of resources in the ground, but no companies that can foot the bill to get to them. Much like how Syberia would stop being poor if somebody could figure out a decent way to carve through the permafrost. Resources in the ground don't accomplish anything, they're potential riches but they aren't riches.

There may be poor people in Mexico, but they are not the ones crossing the border.
