The medicos did terrible things to dogs, too. They induced heart attacks to learn how to treat them. They perfected open-heart surgery on dogs, cats, and pigs.

How cruel.

Of course, all this research saved my personal life, but to Mr. Rosenbaum, saving humans lies far, far down the old priority list.

Oh, I'm right there with you--I got my cats, but I also have my pride and joy--my 8 mo. old pure bred Rottweiler, Ms. Ursa! Dogs are quite wonderful, too!

The only thing I couldn't dissect in high school was a shark for marine biology. It was so nasty, you could smell them in the halls all through the science lab.

Heck, my friend was in nursing school IN LIBERAL BOSTON and dissected cats. No fuss there...

Typical irrational liberal outrage... kill all the babies you want, but don't you dare dissect one cat in the name of science or abort one Afghanistani pygmy goat (the animal rights outrage a few years ago, used for hats like the one Hamid Karzai wears...) and you're just this side of Hitler.

The cat I dissected in my College Biology/Anatomy class was an import from Mexico. Damn NAFTA! That cat stole the job of an American feline....

For a good purpose, a higher humanitarian purpose, he says-but obviously he isn't trying to excuse the lying and cheating, or the implicit betrayal of the poor trusting animals, who thought they were going to be given a home off the mean streets at last.

Disgusting! Such a betrayal! At least lab animals UNDERSTAND that they must be sacrificed for medical progress!

This is actually not so unusual for ambitious young scientists...the cats (and dogs, too, I am sure) provided an opportunity to learn. Only if one is of the mind that no animal is to be used to its death (like for meat, skin, or sport) can one really sit in judgement.

Hey, thos cats thought they were going to get a nice home.

Yeah, right. Do cats think about anything other than how to lick themselves? I'm not knocking them for it. If I could lick myself, I'd think about it all day too.

Hey what about Chinese imigrants who BBQ a neighborhood full of loved house pets (true story)...That's OK, they aren't republican, they are multi-cultural.

Remember, the Chicken Chow Mein lunch special may just be Chow.

The WORST thing they can find is that he took cats that were to be euphanized(sp?) and practiced heart surgery on them so that he could save the lives of newborns?

Somehow this doesn't worry me.

If that's the case then they would be deleting everyday. If people want to discuss this - they should be able to.

Experimenting on cats???? Oh the HORROR!!!!!!!

Why wasn't he helping poor women or something instead? You know, like performing late term/partial birth abortions for the "needy"? Something for the good of all mankind, you know supporting a women's right to chose, instead of killing innocent life???

Our little bundle of terror that we adopted this year.......
