The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic and MOVE-OUT! (Marines and Other Veterans Engaging Outrageous Un-American Traitors!) call all FReepers and lurkers in good standing, veterans and other patriotic Americans to join us in our nation's capital on Saturday, January 18, 2003 to show support for the men and women serving in our Armed Forces, and our Commander-in-Chief, as they continue to fight the war on terrorism and gear up to defend us against out-law regimes like Iraq and North Korea.
The enemy will be taking the field that day in D.C. with an "anti-war" protest organized by the communist front group IAC-A.N.S.W.E.R. with a rally at the Capitol (3rd Street on the Mall) and a march past the Marine Barracks at 8th and I Streets, SE, that finishes at the Washington Navy Yard, 8th and M Streets, SE. Our purpose in gathering is to offer a peaceful, patriotic counter-point to the anti-American leftists who will be spewing their hatred and venom against what they call "America's war machine"--and what we call "the defenders of freedom."
We will muster from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Constitution Gardens which is right next to The Wall at 21st Street and Constitution Avenue, NW on the Mall.Mapquest Link.
At 10:30, we will fall out and proceed on foot and via Metro or cars to the Marine Barracks at 8th and I Streets, SE. There, we will line the sidewalk along 8th Street and exercise our rights as citizens to observe the public parade by the leftists and to peacefully offer our opinion of it. You should plan on being there until at least 2 or 3 p.m.
We are asking folks to bring American and Gadsden flags, large and small, and their service colors. Also bring signs with messages supporting our troops and America.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
We expect the leftists to be peaceful, however there are always a few yahoos who like to stir up trouble. Let the law enforcement officers take care of them. They are experts at crowd control and are there to ensure that everyone's rights are respected.
More details will be announced in the days ahead. We are awaiting approval for our permit at Constitution Gardens, which should come in a few days.

I have not only read all of the materials you were so kind to forward, I have posted them within a special forum created for a club, which has an internet site, to which USMC combat veterans belong.
Membership to that club is restricted to ONLY those Marines and FMF Corpsmen who have been in combat.
There has been a furor over a post originally made of your actions leading Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform just a few days ago within the club website. Nearly all of the members believe in doing something about these radical protesters and the rebirth of this type of movement. There is tremendous anger and a feeling among them of violation as a result of these leftist radicals "using" both physical monuments to veterans and their own interpretations of what deceased veterans would [protest] the current administration doing in it's anti-terrorist actions.
The membership is aware there will be a march/rally/protest in Washington, D.C., 1/18-1/19/03 I believe. It is the desire of most of the membership to engage these leftists for two reasons; to attempt to demonstrate to the public and to the media that Vietnam Veterans are nearly unanimous in their support of bringing terrorists, threatening anti-American Dictatorial regimes, and extremist muslim states to their knees, and if necessary, eliminated. They believe our active duty military should have their actions and honor validated publicly, unlike the ignominious and utter failures at home to protect their own actions and honor when they were in Vietnam. Secondly, they are adament to not allow these leftists to defile, rally around, misrepresent, or dishonor in any way physical military monuments they consider sacred, such as The Wall, the Iwo Jima Memorial [now known as the United States Marines War Memorial], Arlington National Cemetery, etc., they would use for their own agenda. These men also resent the radicals' use of their dead comrades, speaking "through" them as though they would be against current anti-terrorist actions.
I am attempting to be the fulcrum of logistical efforts to make a substantial and sufficient presence in Washington to accomplish the veteran's objectives above. Time is very short, of course, and I do not know how successful we can be to get this sufficient turnout there. The radicals have a jump on us, obviously. Unless the actions of the United States is totally devistating, I would expect other actions by the leftists after January.
What groups, numbers, organizations, et al are you aware of that are planning to be there in January, and do you know the exact route and itinerary of the radical movement?
Any information you may tip me would be most appreciated.

I am in receipt of, and strongly agree with, your comments regarding proposed action at the Wall. First, a short review to make sure you have all the facts from this end. The statement that people shouted from the wall "If these men were here today they would be with us" came from William Street of Hawaii, Vietnam vet and member of my Board of Advisors. I went over his report carefully with him and am satisfied that he did see this on C-Span.
I myself did not get to see the C-Span coverage. Deciding that VVAR should comment on this I first checked with three other Advisors, all Vietnam vets. They said ok, but one, Roger Young, Co-Editor of Northwest Veterans Newsletter, while he said, "Those using the Wall for anti-war demonstrations are despicable and certainly cannot speak for our fallen comrades as you pointed out" also said. "However, any demonstration, pro or con, at the Wall, is upsetting to many Vietnam vets." So I decided to proceed cautiously, say nothing in the name of VVAR, simply made a statement as a personal opinion as would not presume to speak for any vets. Not being a Vietnam vet, only a friend of vets who has fought a few battles alongside them here on the homefront. So I put it, "I would like to see." (Just sent you a copy of my documentary and will send a copy of my monograph "The War on the Home Front.")
But your views go beyond whether this actually happened at the Wall or not, one issue you mention is "the radical protestors and the rebirth of this kind of type of movement." You mention two good reason to speak out 1) demonstrate to the public and the media that Vietnam vets are nearly unanimous in their support of bringing terrorists, threatening anti-American dictatorial regimes, and extremist Muslim states to their knees, or eliminated, and 2) having our active duty military have their actions and honor validated publicly , something that was missing in the 60's, another good reason. And then if their presence stops any efforts to use monuments to further agendas hostile to the interests of the US, thats another good reason.
The project you propose would be a very big shock to the protestors, who think they thay cannot be challanged, and a big boost to the national morale.
So even if Mr. Street got it wrong, and I spoke out too hastily, the situation as you and your people see it transcends all that and I think you have a great idea here and would like to help in any way I can.
I have a pretty good sized distribution list of indiviual vets and vet organizations, and could send out a press release talking about what you would like to do and people could contact you. But I'll check with you on this first. Even if this doesn't come off at this time it would send shivers through the anti-war movement as it could happen next time.
I have little information on groups, numbers, organizations, itineray at this time but do have something on one large group, Boston Mobilization I'll send you and am sure more will turn up on the web shortly. I'll be sure to pass on any information to you. Tomorrow I'll send you the phone numbers of 3 of my most knowledgeable advisors, including our Hawaii man, should you care to contact them about this.Am all for Vietnam vets speaking out on the current issues. Protest March in Washington, D.C.!!! Yes, the left is at it again!
The RIGHT will be in Washington, D.C. to greet them, in the form of UNITED STATES MARINES, of all ages, but of special interest is the majority of Vietnam War Marine veterans leading them. These patriotic heros will demonstrate to the public, it's government leaders, the media who dare to watch or note, and to our active duty military men and women that THE LEFT DOES NOT REPRESENT THE MAJORITY OR EVEN THE MAJORITY OF WAR VETERANS INCLUDING VIETNAM COMBAT VETERANS!
The Phoenix-like rebirth, after thirty years, of leftist demonstrators has arrived. There was a demonstration in Washington October 28, but it was not as successful as they hoped, due to logistical/time constraints.
The upcoming January 18 demonstration is being organized in a way the prior protest could not, and should prove to be much larger.
This fact has been brought to the attention of initially many Vietnam combat veteran Marines, who, unlike the way-too-silent majority during the Vietnam War, do not intend to "give" the podium and our country over to these traitors without a challenge and an opposing position; the position we believe represents the majority of our fellow countrymen.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joel Charles Kernodle. I am a Marine Corps Infantry Vietnam combat veteran, with a Purple Heart. Counter to the caricature made popular by the leftist media majority and the leftist entertainment industry, we were and are patriotic Americans who willingly fought communism for our country, and would do so again. We do not all live under bridges or in the woods nor have we all amounted to nothing since the war, despite our disabilities. We are many things, like all Americans, as I was; a commercial/industrial finance executive who raised a family and helped rebuild this nation after the war. I am an Indiana native, having grown up on a farm there. I have never been a drugger, nor have I been in prison or jail, and have only tried to be a contributing member of society since my wartime combat service. I have founded, led, or served in dozens of worthwhile organizations over the years. Currently, I have been entrusted by fellow Marines to assist in forming a movement of the RIGHT, and of Marines, to counter the reprehensible rebirth of the leftist radical movement Hell-Bent upon dissention, internal destruction of the United States, and the traitorist and treasonous act, as they did during the Vietnam War, of aiding and abetting the enemies of America.
I should like very much for a major news agency to present us and our position to the American people; to show them the country doesn't "belong" to these minority closet-communists, and that there still exists a pride and posture in this great nation to believe in and fight for ourselves and our way of life.

Biggest thing I want to note is that there must be NO VIOLENCE against these pukes for a very good reason.
A.N.S.W.E.R. is run by Brian Becker of the Workers World Party and "Refuse and Resist" is run by Clark Kissinger, whose day job is as a writer for the Revolutionary Communist Party's newspaper. Both of these clowns have made the mistake of getting interviewed and letting out their strategies. The main thing is that they dropped their normal violent tactics so they could attract more people (soceer moms, Greens, college kids). HOWEVER, there is an element, the anarchists, that would like violence and that would get the anti-war people POSITIVE press from the liberal media. So we don't want to help them. Our guys can't even give them the finger. We have a really great photo of our guys protesting their Sept 29 march in Tom Brokow's latest book on I believe page 92. I made the "Welcome bin Laden Fan Club Sign" the one guy is holding.
Last year, we were afraid that the anti-war people would trash the Navy Memorial. The US Park Police made sure that the events of the Inauguration were not repeated. They had lots of riot cops deployed there and nothing did happen.
Another point is permits. Any demonstration over 25 people needs a permit. Here are the numbers:

Here's the deal on permits. The Natioanl Legal Guild (the commie lawyers helping ANSWER) have probably already permitted every memorial long their march route. That's SOP for them.
Legally, that public property is now private property for the duration of the permit. Even if they don't stop there or have their folks at the memorial, they can have the police escort you off. They did that to us on Sept 29 at the Navy Memorial.
Also, they don't permit conpeting/conflicting groups near each other. So they probably won't grant one. They've recently extended the deadline, so you may be too late already.
That's not to say you couldn't show all up on the sidewalk along their march route.
We've been demonstrating in DC for over 4 years now and have a good relationship with the police. They know we're not the problem and we cooperate fully. A lot of people have a misunderstanding of what is actually allowed under "freedom of speech" and it creates unnecessary problems. For us and the police.
I'd like to see your folks and the DC Chapter of FR work together on this one.

This may seem disjointed, but things are coming to me by e-mail and phone fast and furious, so bear with me please.
Since my original letter “HEAR YE ... HEAR YE ... A CALL TO ARMS”, I have spent a tremendous amount of time coresponding with several helpful allies, and garnering information that is either essential or informative regarding the upcoming event 1/18/03 in DC.
After consideration of the organizations that would prove most beneficial to our cause, I have determined the most efficient means of getting ourselves up-to-speed on our enemy and the workings of Washington DC is to enlist as our primary ally, FreeRepublic.com .
Most of the very-helpful info I have gotten has been from lengthy conversations with Raoul and Kristinn of that organization. They have been “in the face” of these leftist-radical protesters at all of their D.C. “events”, going back to just after 9/11. They also are very familiar with the authorities in D.C. Not only that, they are adept at getting things done that have to be done to be “kosher” with the authorities there, they are knowledgeable of press/media contacts [having helped me there; I have the contacts e-mail addys AND phone #s now], and they will be there in D.C. as our allies to help us avoid making any missteps. I am in awe of both our luck finding them and their D.C. acumen.
OK ... first to dispel some myths, [1] While it’s true the radicals can tie up the rights to a monument or piece of ground there with the proper permit, THAT CANNOT BE DONE WITH THE WALL, IWO JIMA, OR ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETARY! Those places are exempt and protected from that! [2] The radicals did NOT handle or touch or use for their propaganda The Wall in a recent protest. They did make statements about what Vietnam vets would wish, but were not at The Wall. There were people on OUR side at the Wall. Somehow, the two got “melded”. [3] The radicals are mustering on the west side of THE CAPITOL! ... NOT the White House, at 1100 1/18.
I encourage each and every one of you to go to the FreeRepublic website and view the material. You will get an informative view of what “protesting” in DC, surely the Protest Capital of the world, is all about. You’ll get the flavor and feel, and also you will see the delicious sense of humor the Free Republic guys and gals have. Boy, are they a thorn in the side of the leftists!!!! PERMITS AND PROTOCOL: ... Very important! Washington DC and the area, including Arlington, have more cops per capita than anywhere else on earth. DO NOT ... I REPEAT ... DO NOT believe a force of thousands cannot be physically dealt with by the security forces there! Free Republic folks tell me there are upwards of a dozen police forces there, numbering in the thousands, and they have very, very sophisticated equipment, funding, training and the backup of federal forces and FBI, CIA, and Secret Service inter-agency backup numbering in the many thousands too. There are many thousands of active duty armed forces within minutes of any site there always ready to assist.
I will not expound further on the above; rather ... I will tell you these forces are in good graces with the Free Republic people, and the commanding officers are well known to their people and vice-versa. This is essential to us, as these forces would not otherwise know what to expect from “newcomers” to the protest scene like a large group of Vietnam vets whose motives would be a mystery to the police.
ANY NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN ANY GROUP OF 25 OR MORE MUST, I REPEAT, MUST HAVE A PERMIT!
Now, having said that, you may believe, as I originally did, that we all can go as individuals, or as very small groups, but fellas, THAT AIN’T GONNA WORK, because it’s been tried a bazillion times before. Circumvention intent is NOT a funny thing to the security agencies there. We want to stay in the best of graces with the gendarmes. It usually takes 30 days to get a permit, so we would have had a problem there. The second and third problems might have been (as required normally) what number would we state and who is our organization?
We will be OK and in compliance on all counts, thanks to FreeRepublic. They are going to be in touch with the proper police commander and the permit people they know, and will take care of this for us, and explain to the agencies that we are with them, not as FreeRepublic people, or “Freepers” as they are known, but as M.O.V.E.O.U.T.! Our numbers will of course not be known ... and I stated I have no idea whether there will be 10 of us or 10,000!
I repeat, FreeRepublic people are to get the permits for us. The intent at this time, per Mr. T*, is to get the permit for our muster at the closest permitable area to the Wall and the Brothers of Nam statue. Taylor sees no problem with the commander’s being informed we have good intentions, in keeping with Free Republic, and we do not know the numbers because this is the first gathering, and there is no formal “organization”; that nearly everyone there is actually an individual who just got “the word”. I will make a short announcement as close to 0900 as possible, and then we will move to the permitted area adjacent, where we can finalize our muster and move on at will.
ROUTE ... As stated, the muster point for the leftists will be on the west side of The Capitol at 1100. From there, they will proceed on Independence Ave., east to Pennsylvania Ave, southeast on Pennsylvania Ave to 8th Street, south on 8th for a STOP at [sit down when you read this] ... EIGHT & I ... BE ADVISED, THE COMMANDANT AND HQ MARINE CORPS WILL BE ADVISED, EVEN IF UNNECESSARILY, BY ME THROUGH MORE THAN ONE SOURCE OF COMMAND IN THE MARINE CORPS ... THEY WILL BE READY!!!
The maggots will proceed from 8th and I down 8th Street south to the Washington Navy Yards, which is to be the terminus of their little jaunt.
We will proceed from our 0900 muster point east along Independence Ave to The Capitol. We will look to the Free Republic people for direction, and we will follow their advice and lead. The police will not allow two opposing groups to mingle or get within an acceptable to them proximity [generally speaking, close enough for physical assault or large objects to be thrown successfully].
This is where we get to REALLY have some FUN! ... We are allowed to bellow our lungs out. We can use bullhorns and we can even use the kind with a battery and an amplified horn. We must use signs that use a stick no longer than three feet [3’]. We can cook up very derisive chants [one that was very effective and rattled the lefties last time was “SWIM TO CUBA” ... and other cleverly biting ones]. We can make banners as long as we want that can be stretched between two of the three foot sticks. Again, we will follow the lead and advice of the “Freepers” who are without peer at this giddy venture of harassing leftists. I, for one, can hardly wait!
There are some parade-route no-nos we must be careful to avoid, such as racist remarks and things like that. We can cuss the tar out of them though. Chants and songs work the best, because the din of that sort of thing is insurmountable for them, especially when one of their “speakers” or “notables” would attempt to talk, even amplified. The Freepers were successful in causing the leftists to disband, during the last protest, with their extreme noise and derision. Here’s your chance to finally tell these creeps what you think of them UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL! ... so have a Ball!
ROUTE: ... T*, of FreeRepublic, who lives in DC, tells me the distance from The Wall to the W side of the Capitol is a little over a mile. It is less than that to The Navy Yards. We will probably position ourselves along the route somewhere between the Capitol and the end of the route. I am going to suggest we position ourselves just before 8th & I. That way we can have both the approaching leftists AND 8th & I in view. Hopefully our IMPOSING DIN will cause the protesters to disperse. That probably won’t happen, but we should try. Failing that, we may just get to watch them attempt something at 8th & I and have the fun of watching them get attacked by the police to their rear, and even better, attacked by Marines at the front of 8th & I! DO NOT let me forget to attempt this positioning and bring it up beforehand to the Freepers.
HEADS UP ... The FreeRepublic folks will be setting up video/recording sessions with the media. This will be ALL media; print, radio, and TV. We don’t know at this time where and when these will be shown. I will pass this word on when I get it, but that may not be known until a day or two before even.
Both the FreeRepublic and VVAR [Leonard Magruder at Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform] have asked who will be the person being the representative of the veterans and the Right ... I told them that would be me [Joel Kernodle].
I was told these recorded sessions with the media will probably occur a day or two before the event, and they asked if I could be there early by up to three days, for example, and I said “yes”. There may be a possibility of a debate with a representative of the leftists, and asked if I am capable of doing that and would I be willing to do so, and I said, most emphatically, YES.
The places mentioned the most for TV include FOX, CNN, and C-Span. The most “important” and likely ones for print will be the New York Daily News, AP, UPI, and Royters.
Other things you all should look for: You may see some people lurking around among and close to “cover” who are dressed in a lot of black. Many will have black hats or hoods too. These will be the worst of the bunch. They are the “Black Bloc”, which is a very dangerous anarchist group. They started in Germany, it’s believed, and will be the ones most likely to sneak in a window breaking or a sucker punch. They will be watched by the police, but keep your eye on these creeps. They were the ones causing the most physical damage at the World Bank conferences.
Also, you may see some geeky looking characters in neon orange hats. Those will be communist lawyers from the National Lawyers Guild. They are there to keep an eye on their “little charges” and make sure the police honor their ill-gotten permits and record any transgressions of us conservatives, vets, and right-wingers ... a word of caution! One of the dirty little “tricks” you may endure is being “rushed” by a radical, who will be watched by one of their communist [no kidding!] lawyers.
Their hope is to try to start a melee or at least get someone to fight. There will be some taunting on their side too. PLEASE do not fall for this!!!! LET THE POLICE HANDLE THEM. Believe me, there will be considerable mileage given any footage of veterans and right-wingers fighting ... it will be edited ... taken out of context ... and shown with considerable glee by the likes of the Dan Rathers and other leftist TV personalities. Of course, if you have a radical jump right on your body and flailing you, well, you certainly have a right to defend yourself! ... and gee, I guess combat Marines know WHAT TO DO!!!
The mix of the bulk of the bodies of the leftist marchers is 3/4 college students who are bussed in and provided a lunch. Of the remaining 1/4, over 1/2 of that is clergy and faculty [professors and such]. The remainder are weirdos, Black Bloc, a few Black Panthers and middle eastern stooges, and some other fringe sympathizers. About half are female.

Happy New Year !!! Am sending you below a summary article I'd like to send out to tons of vet organizations and the media. Also separately, the three articles I mention in this article. But, as I say in the main article, we strongly support what you are doing but will always check with you first in any effort to help. I wanted to put together our material and your material in a text that can't be longer than 4 pages so that requred considerable editing. But I'm hoping it covers the essence of the issue and what you are doing for people and tells them where to go. I'll change anything you don't like, add anything, or even scratch the whole article if you don't like it. If you want people to contact you I can add your e-mail and/or phone number. Please advise. It is also being looked over by my top 4 Advisors but with instruction not to do anything until we hear from you. They can reach a lot of other Vietnam vets. There are a couple of newspapers that I'm sure will carry something on this, VVA News - Conn, the editor is on our Board, also a large San Diego newspaper. Also a number of places on the web that usually post my articles, Northwest Veterans Newsletter, whose Editor is also on our Board, AllSouthWestNews, CNS.Com, and Arena of Ideas. Remember, the protestors on Jan. 18 primarily represent the university, a national failure. They will yell good, but really have nothing to say to America in this hour of mortal danger. They can't even do what they are supposed to do. Because of them Johnny can't read, write, tell right from wrong or get through without massive grade inflation. They have put America in 19th place in international scholastic competition. Multiculturalism, speech codes, and political correctness have led to a totalitarian climate on campus of racism, anti-semitism, and ignorance of American history. Send them a serious article and all you ever get back is "take me off your list." What do they know about truth or freedom?
I have sent a number of copies of my documentary "How the Campus Lied About Vietnam" to strategic TV stations in Washington to show that what the anti-war protestors will be saying on Jan. 18 is simply a recycling of the lies they used to betray SouthEast Asia to tyranny and genocide in the 60's. The soldiers were not here when the campus lied about Vietnam. But they are here now and they are going to be heard.

STUDENT ORGANIZATION AT UNIV. OF KANSAS ... CALLS FOR PROTEST IN WASHINGTON
Leonard Magruder, President of Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform, the student auxiliary at the University of Kansas, today sent out 80 complimentary copies of his documentary, "How the Campus Lied About Vietnam," as requested by universities and vet organizations all over the country. This is part of a new national campaign by his organization to fight media bias against 3 new films that challange the false view of the Vietnam War that has been institutionalized on campus to protect those who would not serve.
Said Mr. Magruder,"This is also our response to the infamous "Not in Our Name" advertisement signed by many who were leaders in the 60's war protests calling the current war on terrorism "unjust, immoral, and illegimate". These are the same words they used in the 60's to hand SouthEast Asia over to genocide and tyranny." Once again the leftist tyranny on campus is fatally misinterpreting a world crisis, which, unless stopped, will again lead to polarization and failure. At the anti-war protest in Washington on Oct. 26 protestors, mostly university people, shouted from near the Vietnam Memorial (The Wall), "If these men were here today they would be with us." That is certainly not likely to be true of the vast majority represented by The Wall. In a recent poll of Vietnam vets by VFW Magazine, "90% of those who saw heavy combat are proud to have served their country. 66% said they would serve again if called upon." This effort by the protestors to falsely manipulate those who can't fight back is a disgrace. Said Mr. Magruder, "At the next demonstration coming up (Jan.18) I would like to see 100,000 Vietnam vets form a line, away from the Wall, but between it and the protestors, to say, "These men would not be with you in your "Hate America" campaign. They gave their lives fighting for a just cause, the freedom of South Vietnam from Communist aggression from North Vietnam. You lied in the 60's and you are lying again. And what you are teaching students about the Vietnam War is a lie also." The film, "How the Campus Lied About the Vietnam War," is a one-hour film based on 62 interviews with Vietnam vets at parade weekends in the late 80's. Only one question was asked, "How do you feel about the campus war protestors"? The general response was that the position taken by the protestors was "false, hypocritical, and damaging to the war effort." ("The Stalwart", K.U. student newspaper). This is also a description of what you will be hearing from the protestors on Jan.18. In this film you will hear of the damage done to any war effort and its soldiers when our intellectuals fall for enemy propaganda as they did in the 60's. The nation is not going to go through this again.

Dear Mr. Magruder,
I have not only read all of the materials you were so kind to forward, I have posted them within a special forum created for a club, which has an internet site, to which USMC combat veterans belong.
There has been a furor over a post originally made of your actions leading Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform just a few days ago within the club website. Nearly all of the members believe in doing something about these radical protesters and the rebirth of this type of movement. There is tremendous anger and a feeling among them of violation as a result of these leftist radicals "using" both physical monuments to veterans and their own interpretations of what deceased veterans would protest. The membership is aware there will be a march/rally/protest in Washington, D.C., 1/18-1/19/03 . It is the desire of most of the membership to engage these leftists for two reasons. First, to attempt to demonstrate to the public and to the media that Vietnam Veterans are nearly unanimous in their support of bringing terrorists, threatening anti-American dictatorial regimes, and extremist Muslim states to their knees, and if necessary, eliminated. They also believe our active duty military should have their actions and honor validated publicly, unlike the ignominious and utter failures at home to protect their own actions and honor when they were in Vietnam. Second, they are adamant to not allow these leftists to defile, rally around, misrepresent, or dishonor in any way physical military monuments they consider sacred, such as The Wall, the Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, etc., or otherwise use them for their own agenda. These men also resent the radicals' use of their dead comrades, speaking "through" them as though they would be against current anti-terrorist actions.

Part 3 ( A Call to Arms goes out)
United States Marine Corps combat veterans of the Vietnam War have initiated an offensive; a war, if you will, against the stance and arrogance of the leftist radical movement. These vile traitors, sympathetic to the enemies of this nation have again, after thirty years, risen their ugly heads, Phoenix-like, to aid and abet our enemies. As before, they are demonstrating, trying to present, with the help of the liberal media, a false impression to the citizens and politicians of America, and the world, of a popular opposition to the United States defending itself and waging war upon those bent upon it's destruction. Your "arms" are your willingness to help show the world the radical left is not going to be given the sole position of presenting the only voice of the will and wishes of our people. Your "call" is to plan to join up with these Marines, and other patriotic Americans, and proceed to Washington, DC to be a needed member of our demonstration against that of the leftist anti-war protestors.

PART 4 (details for the troops)
After consideration of the organizations that would prove most beneficial to our cause, I have determined the most efficient means of getting ourselves up-to-speed on our enemy and the workings of Washington D.C. is to enlist as our primary ally, FreeRepublic. They also are very familiar with the authorities in DC. Not only that, they are adept at getting things done that have to be done to be "kosher" with the authorities there, they are knowledgeable of press/media contacts and they will be there in DC as our allies to help us avoid making any missteps.
I encourage each and every one of you to go to a FreeRepublic website, http://www.freerepublic.com , and view the material. You will get an informative view of what "protesting" in DC, surely the Protest Capital of the world, is all about. We want to stay in the best of graces with the gendarmes. It usually takes 30 days to get a permit, so we would have had a problem there. The second and third problems might have been (as required normally) what number would we state and who is our organization? We will be OK and in compliance on all counts, thanks to FreeRepublic. We will all muster at the closest permissible area to the Wall and the Brothers of Nam statue.I will make a short announcement as close to 0900 as possible. We will proceed from our 0900 muster point east along Independence Ave to The Capitol. We will look to the FreeRepublic people for direction, and we will follow their advice and lead. The police will not allow two opposing groups to mingle or get within an unacceptable, to them, proximity [generally speaking, close enough for physical assault or large objects to be thrown successfully]. We are allowed to bellow our lungs out. We can use bullhorns and we can even use the kind with a battery and an amplified horn. We must use signs that use a stick no longer than three feet [3']. We can cook up very derisive chants and can make banners as long as we want that can be stretched between two of the three foot sticks. There are are some parade-route no-nos we must be careful to avoid, such as racist remarks and things like that. We can cuss the tar out of them though.
The FreeRepublic folks will be setting up video/recording sessions with the media. This will be ALL media; print, radio, and TV. Both the FreeRepublic and VVAR [Leonard Magruder at Vietnam Veterans for Academic Reform] have asked who will be the person being the representative of the veterans and the right. I told them that would be me [Joel Kernodle]. There may be a possibility of a debate with a representative of the leftists, and asked if I am capable of doing that and would I be willing to do so, and I said, most emphatically, YES. The places mentioned the most for TV include FOX, CNN, and C-Span. The most "important" and likely ones for print will be the New York Daily News, AP, UPI, and Reuters.

Before you begin to read the document below, please take a moment to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at Valley Forge, as he holds his musket in his bloody hands. He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded by nothing but death and carnage of war. He stands tough, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks at us now in anger and disgust and he tells us this ...
I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your children graduate too illiterate to read it.
I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you stay at home because it rains.
I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you remain silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for business.
I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has stolen democracy from the people.
It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press.
It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.
It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!

The young Marine was weary,

He had seen the Navy's power,
As he made his way ashore.
Then he thought about his rifle,
And he found it rather small,
With the gunships and the cannons,
It was nothing much at all.
The efforts of a rifleman,
Meant little, it would seem,
Then, as he slipped to slumber,
He dreamed himself a dream.
The man who stood beside him,
Held a musket in his hand,
And close around his neck he wore,
A heavy leather band.
"When I was on Old Ironsides",
The apparition said,
"There were cannonballs and cutlasses,
Wherever danger led.
There were pistols too, and daggers,
At every fighter's side,
When the ships would come together,
On the rolling, heaving, tide.
But when it came to boarding,
With the battle fury hot,
It was rifles, always rifles,
That made the telling shot."
The apparition faded,
And standing in its place,
Beneath a shallow helmet,
He saw another face.
"When we were in the trenches,
In the Wood they call Marine,
There were mortars, tanks, and cannons,
More than I had ever seen.
But when the final charge was made,
To push the Germans back,
It was rifles, always rifles,
At the point of the attack."
The face changed only slightly,
And the helmet stayed the same,
But the island that he spoke of,
Had a more familiar name.
"They hit us very early,
On the day the war begun,
On the wings of all their bombers,
We could see the Rising Sun.
Our pilots and our gunners,
Who fought and fell at Wake,
Wrote a story full of glory,
That time can never shake.
But when the enemy drew near,
To make his final reach,
It was rifles, always rifles,
That met him on the beach."
There next appeared a shadow,
In a swirl of stinging snow,
And it breathed a fierce defiance,
And its eyes were all aglow.
"In 'Fifty at the Chosin,
When the big guns couldn't talk,
And the First Marine Division,
Took a fighting, freezing walk.
When all the world, except the Corps,
Had counted us as gone,
It was rifles, always rifles,
That let us carry on."
The scene was changed to summer,
And the face was hard and lean,
And the tired eyes were fired,
With the light that says "Marine".
"At Khe Sahn when they shelled us,
We were wrapped in rolling smoke,
And the thought of our survival,
Was a grim and ghastly joke.
But when the waves came swarming in,
To finish the assault,
It was rifles, always rifles,
That called the final halt."
There next appeared a general,
As solid as a tank,
With three stars on his collar,
To signify his rank.
His stature and demeanor,
Were the military type,
And in his hand he carried,
A stubby little pipe.
His jaw was squarely chiseled,
His eyes were clear and keen,
And his bearing left no question,
He was all Marine's Marine.
"The message they're conveying",
The burly General said,
"Is that through our troubled history,
The rifles always led.
We've had cannons, tanks, and mortars,
We've had weapons by the score,
We've had battleships and fighter planes,
To complement the Corps.
We've a most impressive arsenal,
That's obviously true,
But the final thrust for victory,
Has always been with you.
It was rifles, always rifles,
When the Corps was sorely pressed,
And the rifle that you carry,
Must meet the final test.
So sling that rifle proudly,
For everything we do,
With mortars, tanks, and cannons,
Is just an aid to you."
The young Marine awakened,
And put the dream aside,
Though now he clutched his rifle,
With a certain touch of pride.
And then he chanced to notice,
That lying near his hand,
Was a stubby little pipe,
And a heavy leather band.
