Slash government in Half across the board...get the Feds out of the States business...Slash the State Govmints too...
This economy would go to the moon, and we could finance Dozens of Wars...at a profit...

"Slash government in Half across the board...get the Feds out of the States business...Slash the State Govmints too...This economy would go to the moon"Oh really...lay off tens of thousands (maybe even hundreds of thousands) of Federal and State government employees into an economy reeling from the impact of 9/11, and the stock market adjustment, and that would make the economy soar?

The natural order for government burden is to increase until it is intolerable to the people. It will be no different with the US federal government. There are no systemic processes that motivate reduction in Federal spending and taxation. Contrarily, there are many processes within the federal government that push for greater consumption of citizens' productivity. The culmination will be revolution, as history reveals, either violent - by a vigorous people, with rebirth; or by complete demoralization, exhaustion and dissolution.
I think we are on the latter path.
