Chair goes to frosh Parra

Assemblywoman Nicole Parra will be in Bakersfield today, flanked by the state Assembly speaker and her father, Pete Parra, a Kern County supervisor, for an event announcing her appointment as chairwoman of the Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee.

Parra said the appointment, which she learned of late last week, makes her one of just five Assembly freshmen to chair a committee.

The Democratic assemblywoman vowed to be "a fighter for veterans."

The 11 a.m. event, which is scheduled to include an appearance by Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson Jr., will take place at the Kern County Veterans' Service Department at 1120 Golden State Ave.

Since the Central Valley is home to some 225,000 veterans, or 12 percent of the state's veteran population -- with 55,000 of those in Kern County -- it's important that someone from the region chairs the committee, Parra said.

As committee chairwoman, Parra said she plans to make sure veterans have access to educational assistance, home loans, transportation and other services they're entitled to.

She also wants to ensure that two veterans homes planned for Fresno and Lancaster are built.

And in the wake of last year's terrorist attacks, Parra said, she hopes to keep Californians protected from further terrorism by making sure National Guard members receive necessary training.

Charles Bikakis, director of the Kern County Veterans' Service Department, said the appointment is a good sign for people who've served in the armed forces.

"We're hoping that she can help veterans with some of our issues," said Bikakis, who is also involved with a state organization that lobbies for veteran-oriented legislation. "It could be beneficial to have a friendly voice in that position. We're hoping Parra could either sponsor or support some of the legislative goals of our association."

The assemblywoman is also a member of four other committees that deal with agricultural, transportation, water and economic development issues.

This is a post for Parra's benefit. I know you and your goons are reading this. You can run but you can't hide. Just like we brought down Gary Condit; we will bring you down, too. Actually, you brought yourself down - just like Condidit - by being arrogant and corrupt and thinking you could crap on the good citizens of your district and nobody would notice because we're all dumb idiots. Well, SURPRISE! Have a nice day.

Nicole Parra HERSELF came with one of her goons to find me. She and her goon found me in the hallway minding my own business getting ready to leave the capitol; my patriotic duty done! She said, "I'm Nicole Parra" and she said I'm wasting my money distributing this letter. To that I LAUGHED OUT LOUD RIGHT IN HER PRETTY FACE!!! I said, "You talk to me about wasting money?!! You who wasted TWO MILLION DOLLARS?!" It was funny. Then she says, "I'm not afraid of you!" and I said, "Well, I'm not afraid of you, either, OBVIOUSLY!"

Later, I realized that she was trying to get me to threaten her or something so she could have me arrested. Well, I certainly disappointed her. I turned around to leave and she says, "Why are you running away?!" I said, "Because I have to go to work; I work for a living; I'm not a leech like you; I have to work for a living!"

I suggest that the next time you do this; handing out letters in a public building; that you bring along a companion or witness. Ms. Nicole Parra certainly did. Might not hurt to have your companion have one of those small videocameras too.

Also, tone down the rhetoric, and partisanship when you write letters to the editor/legislators.

In your letter, you did not have to mention that Dean Gardner is the GOP nominee. Could have said, "Nicole Parra's opponent".

For the record - California is the state that suffered the most deaths of soldiers during Operation Iraqi Freedom yet Nicole Parra (the pretty young democrap thing) is heading up the Veterans Affairs Committee in the Assembly. I also read how Nicole and Gov. Davis saluted California soldiers as they went off to fight for our freedom in Iraq. PUKE UP THE WAZOO!
