This development is important to those of us who believe the end-times prophecies. The Bible says that in the end times, the Jews will revive ritual animal sacrifice for the covering of sin. This however requires the breeding of a red heifer as well as recreating the other artifacts of the temple to conduct the sacrificial rituals correctly.

This is one more piece of the puzzle, but more importantly, it shows that the Jews are serious about reviving the ancient priesthood rituals which points to rebuilding Solomon's temple, currently under the much newer Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. The mention of the red calf in the article is a clue toward this end. It's another part of Biblical prophecy being put into place.

Interestingly, other articles recently posted on FR have discussed the European countries' ban on kosher slaughter (I don't remember the Hebrew term for it). The PM of Israel is also asking for the conversion to Judaism to be made simpler, so more Jews will return home to Israel.

If you look more closely at the article about conversion, you will see that the Jews are not very serious about reviving anything. They are moving away from religion in droves. Not likely to bring about the end of the world.
