Big one

Big one U.S. intelligence officials say there are signs terrorists are planning a major attack during the holiday season. But the signs are not specific enough to issue a warning to the public. Increased chatter among terrorist groups associated with the al Qaeda network has been a common indicator in the past. Intelligence agencies have been picking up signals since early December from terrorist suspects indicating that an attack is being planned. "They are talking about 'the big one,'" an intelligence official tells us. U.S. government public warnings about terrorism over the Christmas and New Year's holiday have been limited to overseas-travel advisories. The latest intelligence says a major terror attack could be carried out in the United States, the officials said. The FBI warned this week that terrorists may attempt to blow up an airliner using explosives-laden shoes, similar to the attempt a year ago by accused shoe-bomb suspect Richard C. Reid. CIA Director George J. Tenet said in a recent speech that the al Qaeda network is preparing terrorist attacks. He noted that recent taped messages by al Qaeda leaders were "unprecedented in their bluntness and urgency."

"Big One."

You older folks might remember this from the original cast Saturday Night Live: the Coneheads were playing "Family Feud," and the question was, "What do most Americans want to bite?"

Connie Conehead answered (in that insect-like voice of hers, "The Big One!"

And she was right. ;)

Anyway, this is creepy. The missus and I will be staying home this New Year's Eve. Just us, and Tony Soprano on DVD.

I think any terrorist activity or chatter is more likely preparations for attacks in response the probable upcoming war with Iraq. Its not exactly a secret that the Anthrax attacks from last year were a warning from Saddam.

In other words, they waited until yesterday to release the names/pics so it would not spoil our Christmas?

We plan on staying home and renting a DVD.

Sources close to the FBI and the CIA are now talking about a long-standing Al Quaeda plot to use subliminal signals imbedded in DVDs to create an army of believers to attack the U.S. on January 1, 2003. The first step was to invent the DVD, since VHS casettes were of too poor quality to properly hide the subliminal messages. Given Arabia's historic dominance of technology this was a trivial task, although Islam has been waging a propaganda war trying to convince Americans that Arabs are actually lazy and stupid and could never invent anything more complicated than an electric toaster.

The second phase of the plot was to do something horriffic that would cause people to stay home and watch DVDs more often than they used to. Says Professor of Middle Eastern Studies Yossif al Aqsa al Mohammed as Farsal al Washedup, "They nearly blew it by damaging the U.S. economy so much. It really seemed like people would stop buying DVD players. However, to the relief of everyone in Islam, the U.S. consumer pressed on."

Source - what? I have to have a source for everything?

Shalom.

Bowl games worry me.

Me too. I'm afraid that Tennesse will kick Maryland's butts. Other than that I'm OK about the bowl games.

Did they use facial recognition software at that game? Some of those spectators look like "ragheads".
