FBI Hunts 5 Who Entered U.S. Illegally (New Info on OWASI entrance!)

With the New Year's holiday approaching, the FBI is searching for several men of Arab ancestry after receiving intelligence they crossed illegally into the United States from Canada and may have connections to others under watch in terrorism investigations, law enforcement officials said Monday.

The FBI has no specific information the men are plotting a terrorist attack, but they want to question them about possible connections to individuals who are involved in terrorism, the officials said, speaking only on condition of anonymity.

In Seattle, Dan Harrington told the FBI he rode a Greyhound bus across the border with one of the men whom agents want to question, reports Rick Price of CBS News affiliate KIRO.

"Now he was definitely on the same bus as me down from Canada," Harrington said, pointing to a photograph of Mustafa Khan Owasi. "And it was definitely Christmas Eve,"

Harrington said federal agents detained Owasi during an unusually long delay at the border:

"I could hear the INS guy saying, 'Well basically that's not what you told me, your story keeps changing.' And they ended up leading him away," Harrington said.

Though he says Owasi never got back on that bus, which then continued to Seattle, Harrington finds it all disturbing. It's unclear what happened to Owasi after Harrington claims he last saw him.

Among the locations authorities were focusing their search on is New York, based on information received from at least one intelligence source, the officials said.

Because of the large gathering of Americans in New York City on New Year's Eve, authorities were taking the information seriously and pursuing the men even though there is no specific information that they are planning any activities, the officials said.

On Sunday, the FBI enlisted the public's help by putting out photos and names of five of the men they are seeking: Abid Noraiz Ali, Iftikhar Khozmai Ali, Owasi, Adil Pervez and Akbar Jamal, all born between 1969 and 1983.

The FBI warned that the names and birth dates may be false.

The FBI said it had "no specific information that these individuals are connected to any potential terrorist activities, but based upon information developed in the course of on-going investigations, the FBI would like to locate and question these persons." It also said the men are believed to have entered the United States illegally on or around Christmas Eve.

Officials said the intelligence indicated the men crossed from Canada but that there was no specific information on what port of entry.

One official said U.S. authorities' interest in them was heightened when an intelligence source provided information that some of the men being sought were connected to others who are the subjects of terrorism investigations.

The FBI said it was working with the Customs Service, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Transportation Security Administration to find the men.

INS spokesman Dan Kane said his agency has "implemented additional measures to look for these individuals."

He could be still in custody, and they now know who his fellow Islamokazis are.
If he's in custody then why did they put out an alert looking for him? To confuse the other 4?

The guy who caught Ahmmed Ressam in 1999 was former Kitsap County Prosecutor Danny Clem. He was defeated by the current prosecutor by a huge margin. Shortly after, he was arrested for menacing his neighbors. He left the county for Clallum County and the Border Patrol job.

It's perfectly suited for him. He doesn't trust anyone, including his own mother and wife, er, ex-wife. Unfortunately, he needs to be a roving guard, not stationary at an obscure port of entry only accessable by ferry.

Was it James Woosley on FOX this morning that said that border agents captured in 1999 the guy bringing in explosives? That's really painting border security in a good light -- the terrorist just freaked out and ran off and then they caught him. Its almost as if the powers that be let things lie dormant for a number of years they can bring it up as a sucess later on.

Actually, this was widely reported at the time. The terrorist was Algerian Ahmed Ressam. He was on his way to blow up LAX. Click here for the story at SeattleTimes.com.

You can tell that I can't tell any of them apart especially when I can't figure out which is the first, middle or last name. I wouldn't want the job of tracking these people. I have a hard time with English(Arkansas English at that).

INS in Seattle-Tacoma area is exceptionally lax. They released Lee Malvo, too.

Whatever is done, we shouldn't profile. We might offend the delicate sensibilities of the people who are trying to destroy us.

I say if the Canadians aren't going to be a little more sensitive to OUR needs with regards to THEIR immigration, and Border policies, we just Monroe Docrine our way to the North Pole, and make Argh the governor of the 51st State.

Unfortunately, they look all too normal to me. Picture them without the "getting my mug shot" expression and attach an occupation and you have...(Left to right, top to bottom) a car toweler at the Octopus carwash, a Jr College basketball player, a baggage handler at Midway, a fry guy at McDonalds, and a cashier at Walmart.

With our diverse society, it would be all to easy for these guys to melt into the landscape. That is why I take a hard look at these people when the FBI releases pictures of them. I treat these pics the same way I do with the "missing child" cards I get in the mail once a week. If I have their image present in my mind I am more likely to recognize one if I happen to see him. It is important that we all not be paranoid, but always be aware of the people around us. We are the first line of defense.

Stay safe.

i wonder how the fbi feels about KIRO releasing harrington's information? if they have caught one of them i would think they would want that information quiet for awhile....at least long enough to confuse/disrupt the plans of the other four...and give them lead time in interrogation.

He does look like Spock. I bet the guy on the bottom right would eat a pulled pork sandwich if no one was looking.

I'm not sure we'd know any of this information unless we had caught Owasi. Hmmmmm.

Interesting... I'm signed up to receive emergency weather alerts for our area.

This morning I receive a printable set of photos of these Islamanazis. First time this alert system has done anything but weather.

Perhaps this overly conspiratorial, but what is to stop the FBI from putting out the alert after all of the subjects are caught, just to then turn around and say "all clear!" to the relief of the citizenry?

The other possibility is that they are caught, but want people to call in and let the FBI know where they may have seen these guys over the last few days, to home in on the location of the next attack.
